Goals: Speaking/Listening: The majority of the activities this year will require the students to listen to a short video or read a (very) short story and answer questions verbally. Students will be required to record their answers, speak with a partner/group, or speak with the teacher. At first, the activities will be geared toward building a vocabulary. Throughout the year, students will continue to add more details to their sentences and expand their vocabulary. Writing: Although the focus isn’t on writing, students will learn the basic vocabulary to construct simple, concise sentences. At the end of the year, students should be able to write a few paragraphs about basic topics, including the school day and extracurricular activities. Assessments for writing will appear in the form of District/6-weeks Assessments and “Friday Writings.” Reading: At first, students will be reading books specifically made for beginning Spanish students. As the year progresses, students will then be exposed to authentic readings in Spanish and should be able to understand “the gist” of a sentence and/or paragraph. Make-up Policy Quizzes and Exams may be made-up by appointment. It is the student’s responsibility to schedule a make-up time. Tutorial Schedule Tutoring is available on Wednesdays after-school. Additional days can be scheduled as needed and for test review. Extra-credit opportunities The only official extra-credit opportunity is earning extra points on the Vocabulary Contract, an assignment that students must complete at the beginning of each chapter. These are only available if students complete more assignments on the contract than what it takes to earn 100%. Extra credit is not offered as make-up for missing assignments.
