Dear Parent, Year 1 and 2 Cross Country 16 Children from Years 1 and 2 took part in their first cross country race at Abbey Fields against 14 other schools. The Year 1s ran approximately 500m while the Year 2s ran 650m. This was the first primary schools event for this age group and the inexperience of many of the children in the race was reflected in the extremely fast start! Our own runners showed excellent pace judgement however, and all performed extremely well finishing very strongly, some still even smiling! The teams were made up of Frank Tiffney, who finished in a fantastic 2nd place, Daniel Harbord, Jamie Turner, Felix Petersen, Isobel Looker, Amelia Duley, Madeline Wallace, Annabel Davies, James Bunyan, Ben Merry, Patrick Townsend, Thomas Butterfield, Molly Buizer, Maisy Pilch, Evie White and Hope Saunders. Well done to everyone who took part. Hamilton’s athletics future is looking very bright and thanks to all the parents and relatives who came to support. Mrs Norris PE Co-ordinator MDAs (Midday Assistants) and Visitors MDAs have an important role at school looking after the children’s welfare at lunchtime. They have been asked by me to speak to any visitor (this includes parents) who come into the playground at lunchtime to inquire about the purpose of their visit. I trust parents will understand this as it is an important part of keeping your children safe. Rock Man Year 3 On Tuesday, Year 3 enjoyed a visit from the Rock Man. The day was spent examining a variety of rocks, exploring their uses and drawing some fascinating fossils. The children had a great time and learnt lots of interesting facts about rocks. ‘It was a very enjoyable day, I liked looking at the models and finding out information. The day rocked!’ said Sam Prince 3SW. Key Stage 2 Harvest Festival This was a very successful event held at Christchurch. The children’s singing was wonderful and the readings very appropriate to Harvest. Many thanks to you for donations to the Salvation Army. Jeans for Genes Thank you for your support last Friday a grand total of £368.50 was raised. Your help is needed! In the October half term four of our teachers will be joining teachers from Philip Morant to travel to Cape Town, South Africa. Mrs Eves, Mrs Priestley, Miss Rickwood and Mrs Wright will visit a number of schools in the area, observing teaching styles, classroom management and use of resources. Whilst there, it is also hoped that links can be created between Hamilton Primary and the schools visited for future educational use. Several of the schools visited will be township schools, which are not as fortunate as us when it comes to resources. Therefore the teachers would like to take with them presents in the form of pencils (coloured and lead), rubbers, stickers and pencil sharpeners. If you would like to provide any of these items for the township schools, please send the items into school with your child by Friday 24th October. Many thanks in advance for your generosity.
