SKI CLUB
Fearless pupils are encouraged to join the Ski Club which takes place at Midlothian
Snowsports Centre in Edinburgh. The club is aimed at non-skiers. Despite the usually
inclement weather and an endless number of tumbles the youngsters enjoy an
exhilarating time culminating in the trip to Austria. The club takes place on Friday
evenings in the spring term and is organised by Mr Shields and Ms Donaldson.
SWIMMING
Senior School Swimming Club takes place on a Monday morning before school. We
have a number of pupils who gain representative honours every year.
THEATRE CLUB
The Theatre Club is open to keen theatregoers in S4-S6. The aim is to introduce
students to both accessible and challenging drama in a variety of local theatres– but
the Citizens’ Theatre in Glasgow will always be a favourite venue. Ticket prices will
always be substantially discounted. Students will be expected to make their own
arrangements for travel to each venue prior to meeting up with staff in charge.
Occasionally we will attend performances which are more appropriate for our
older students only.
YEARBOOK
This is open to all S5 and S6 who annually produce the Yearbook reflecting their time
at the college through photos, articles and artwork. It is entirely self financing and
always makes a charitable donation to a charity of the year groups’ choice. This group
meets during lunch time, and after school when the need arises. It is overseen by Mrs
Blackstock and Mrs Dunn.
YOUNG ENTERPRISE
Young Enterprise Scotland runs the company program for pupils in S6. This session the
school will be running two Young Enterprise Companies. Each company will be made
up of 6-20 pupils. Mrs Stark, will co-ordinate this activity with Mrs Murray and
Mrs McSeveney, heading up each team.
The idea of the company is to allow pupils to develop entrepreneurial skills within a
team environment. Each company is assigned a link teacher to give them limited
advice and an entrepreneur who will be in weekly contact with the company. This
year the companies advisors are Adrian Martin & Agnes Ferrie from the Mental Health
Tribunal Scotland.
Young Enterprise is a great project for responsible pupils to excel in a Strathclyde
University Business School Exam, a core skill in working with others and certificates to
award the company’s achievements are all up for grabs – never mind the sense of
satisfaction in achieving the company’s goals.
