Job Posting: Director of Music for Northville First United Methodist Church Position description: Develop and lead the worship music ministry for our church, in consultation with the senior pastor and other team members, in a way that is consistent with our mission, values, and theology which is to help people find, experience, and share God’s love through Jesus Christ. Responsibilities: 1. Full-time position, 40 hours per week, 52 weeks per year 2. Provide the vision, direction, leadership and the schedule of the church’s comprehensive music program which includes adult, youth and children’s choirs, and instrumental groups. 3. Select, plan and direct the Adult Choir and other choirs for Sunday services and any midweek services as determined appropriate by the Senior Pastor/SPRC. 4. Participate in the creative planning of the Sunday and special services with the Senior Pastor and applicable staff 5. Recruit, equip, motivate, and supervise music team leaders and musicians. Serve as primary keyboard musician for Sunday worship services, special services, weddings, funerals, and special events. 6. Maintain a music library of all related materials including the purchase music and other music related items within the music budget constraints. 7. Responsible for scheduling tuning and general maintenance for the organ, pianos, keyboards, and other instruments that are property of the church. 8. Develop musical teams, both professionals and volunteers for services. Direct outreach events into the community via performances at other organizations as appropriate. 9. Communicate faithfully with the Senior Pastor and staff. Participate in the life and ministry of the church. Qualifications: - Bachelor’s degree in Music (preferred). - Minimum five years of music leadership in church related setting (United Methodist Church Methodist preferred) Ability to guide and direct volunteer directors, musicians, vocalists and assistants - Ability to organize, coordinate, motivate and supervise musicians and technical team members such media and sound technicians. - Sense of humor and positive attitude. - Strong team player with the rest of the staff and congregation. - Committed to the church's vision, leadership, and people. - Dependable, responsible, self-motivated and creative. Musical Competencies: Ability in wide range of styles including traditional and contemporary music. Ability to lead music worship and train others as individual and team worship leaders. Professional quality keyboard. Composing, arranging, writing, and sequencing music. Producing and directing special events, musicals and programs.
