POSITION: Organist/Accompanist

REPORTS TO: Director of Music, Pastor and Staff Parish Relations Committee
POSITION PURPOSE:
To provide music through keyboard instruments that lift the hearts and provides a variety of styles to
the glory of God. To provide leadership for the entire congregation to appreciate and experience the
variety of musical worship styles reflective of the best of United Methodist practice. To accomplish this
purpose, the Organist/Accompanist will work in concert with the Director of Music and the Pastor.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1 . Join with the pastor and other staff members in preparing for all Sunday morning worship
services, seasonal programs and rehearsals. Worship committee meetings will occur at least
once per month.
2. Select and prepare instrumental music for organ, piano or other available keyboard
instruments for Sunday morning worship and church programs as appropriate.
3. Accompany adult and children’s choirs and other ensembles for all required rehearsals and
performances as appropriate.
4. Provide information for Church Bulletin to the church secretary in a timely manner.
5. Oversee the maintenance of the organ, pianos and other musical equipment and make
recommendations as to repair, upgrading or replacement as needed.
6. Attend conferences, workshops and seminars to continue to refine professional abililities and
promote spiritual growth.
7. Responsible for finding your own replacement when unable to perform.
8. Perform other duties as assigned or as necessity dictates.

POSITION PURPOSE:
To provide music ministry that lifts our hearts in a variety of styles to the glory of God. To provide
leadership for the entire congregation to appreciate and experience the variety of musical worship styles
reflective of the best United Methodist practice . To accomplish this purpose, the Director of Music will
work in concert with the Pastor and the Organist/Accompanist. This is a 12 month position.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Join with the pastor and other staff members in preparing for all Sunday morning worship
services, seasonal programs and rehearsals. Worship committee meetings will occur at least
once per month.
2. Select repertoire , plan rehearsals and direct the Chancel Choir, Bells of Praise and Joyful
Bells ensembles for Sunday morning worship and church programs as appropriate.
3. Work with the Sunday School Superintendent in leading children’s choirs on Sunday
mornings. Rehearse and direct music for Sunday School’s Christmas programs and spring
programs and other programs as needed.
4. Responsible for recruiting and retention of participants for the music programs.
5. Responsible for maintaining and tracking inventory of music equipment.
6. Responsible for managing the annual music budget and for purchasing new music and
equipment.
7. Schedule all music groups, soloists and ensembles for worship and special events in a timely
manner.
8. Act as a resource person for all musicians as needed.
9. Supervise the Organist/Accompanist.
10. Interact with and be accessible to all music groups, including Memorial Strings and Memorial
Brass.
11. Provide information for the church bulletin and fliers to the Church Secretary in a timely
manner.
12. Attend monthly worship committee meetings and function as an at-large member of the
Administrative Counsel
13. Attend conferences, workshops and seminars to continue to refine professional abilities and
promote spiritual growth.
14. Perform other duties as assigned or as necessity dictates.
