Imlitir 27 24th February 2014. A Chairde, As stated in last week’s Imlitir, offers of places for next year will be posted on Thursday 28 th February. Timekeeping: Please note that pupils are expected to be in school by 9.20am. I would like to take this opportunity to thank parents/guardians and children who arrive on time. Pupils who are regularly late are sent to the office where their name is entered into a Late Book and a White Card is sent home to inform the parents/guardians. If this persists a meeting will be called to address the situation. Headlice: Please check your child’s hair on a regular basis. If there has been a case reported, we send a letter to that class. Please check your child’s bag regularly for letters and notes. Imlitirs are usually sent on Mondays or Tuesdays. We are delighted to announce that we are starting an after-schools choir on Thursdays. The aim is to perform in some competitions next year and also to take part in The National Children’s Choir or Hallelujah Chorus or Navan Choral Festival. It will be open, this year, to pupils currently in Fourth, Fifth and Sixth classes. Unfortunately, as there will be competition involved and also as there is a limited number of places, auditions will be necessary. They will be held @ 3.00 in the Dr Eileen Reilly Hall this Thursday and all pupils in these classes are welcome to try out. Our thanks to Ms O Connor and Ms Mc Kenna for offering to get the ball rolling. Well done to the pupils who took part in the recent online Maths Quiz and raised €41 for the L.A.S.C.O. (Latin American Street Children Organisation) Charity. Míle Buíochas. M. Hoey Be Active Programme starting for second class pupils this Wednesday the 26th of February. E Maguire St. Mary’s Champion Speller 2014: Last Wednesday, pupils from third class through to sixth class assembled in the PE Hall for our annual Spelling Bee. The contest began with pupils being asked to spell a series of words in the “Easy” category. Gradually, they progressed to slightly more challenging words in the “Medium” and “Hard” sections. One by one, the eager participants stepped up to the microphone to face the challenge. The pupils showed great courage and determination throughout the competition. Each participant must be congratulated for this. There was a thunderous cheer in the hall after Kate Savage (Sixth Class, Room 31) was pronounced the victor. Well done Kate! Our champion speller will now represent St. Mary’s at the county final. The County Meath Spelling Bee Final will take place in St. Paul’s N.S., Ratoath on Wednesday March 5 th at 11am. We all wish Kate the very best of luck! D Galligan Mise le meas, Cóilín Ó Coigligh, Príomh Oide. The children are busy looking out for signs of nature waking up now that spring has sprung. The birds are singing and the snowdrops, crocuses and daffodils are making their first appearances this year. In keeping with our Biodiversity theme, we would encourage you to observe signs of life around you and if anything strikes you a particularly beautiful or noteworthy, perhaps you could take a photo and send it to our Green blog. This new blog which is linked to our Website and will feature all of our Biodiversity Green Flag work which we will be doing over the coming months. You can read about this here: http://stmarysgreenblog.blogspot.ie/ If you have any pictures of spring or of anything else relating to Biodiversity, then send them to stmarysgreenblog@gmail.com and we will publish them on the Green Blog! WOW (Walking and Wednesdays) continues every Wednesday. We hope that more people will get involved now that the weather is improving. Ms Flattery and Ms Molloy meet walkers up at Mornington House at 9:00 am every Wednesday and escort them down to the school. COW (Cycling on Wednesdays) will begin after the next break weather permitting. You can be dusting off your bikes and checking the tyres and brakes in advance of our COW campaign starting up again! Recycling continues at St Mary’s. We recycle footwear, glasses, ink cartridges, stamps, toilet rolls, mobile phones and batteries. The battery collection campaign, for which we were awarded the big prize last year, has started up again. If we put our minds to it, we could make it a double, who knows! Our Siopa Glas will be happening during Seachtain na Gaeilge , March 10-14. Please start gathering any items you would like to donate to this cause. We will be funding a Rwandan project with the proceeds. It is nice that one green project funds another and we are lucky to have a direct link to Rwanda with Ms Dully there this year. Remember green is cool at home and at school! We do not inherit the earth from our ancestors, we borrow it from our children. (Native American Proverb) S.
