Dear Parent/Carer
The children continue to be a credit to you, working hard in class and behaving well in the playground. Our thanks go
to all pupils for their great effort. As we are now into autumn, may we ask that children bring a jacket to school every
day as the weather can be changeable during playtimes and lunch breaks when they are outdoors. I have a number of
items of information for you:
Winmarleigh
Last week our P7 pupils and staff had a very successful and enjoyable week on the P7 residential trip to Winmarleigh
Hall in Lancashire. I would like to thank the children for their superb participation and wonderful manners.
Winmarleigh Hall staff were very impressed by the children’s behaviour and positive approach. Well done, boys and
girls! My sincere thanks also go to Mrs Connick, Party Leader, Mr McCallum, one of our chaplains, and to all
Carolside staff who accompanied the children last week. Their great care of the children is very much appreciated.
Thank you to our Primary 6 pupils who kindly undertook some of the school’s citizenship duties last week.
Staffing
I am delighted to report that Mrs Barnes is now back to full health and is currently on a phased return to work. Mrs
Connick will continue to support Primary 4 for a few more weeks until Mrs Barnes returns on a full time basis.
Unfortunately we have been informed that Mrs Armour’s absence will now be long term. We wish Mrs Armour well
over the next few months of her recovery. Miss Stewart will continue as class teacher of P4d.
Open Afternoons
During the month of September we look forward to our Open Afternoons when the children welcome visitors to their
classes to see a snapshot of children’s learning. Due to space restrictions, only one visitor per child may attend. All

Parent Council
The first Parent Council Meeting of the session will be held on Tuesday 25 September. As a member of the wider
Parent Forum you may attend meetings. Please contact the school office if you would like to attend so that seating
can be arranged accordingly.
School Office
Whilst the office staff are happy to help with emergencies that occur from time to time, we ask that children are given
clear instructions about lunch/hometime arrangements and that they come to school with everything that they need for
the day e.g. packed lunch, money, PE kits. Thank you for your co-operation with this request.
Curriculum Evening for Parents
We will be holding a Curriculum Evening for parents on Wednesday 19 September. One parent per family is invited
to attend from 6.45pm until 8.15pm, taking part in Literacy and Numeracy workshops. This year a group of pupils
will provide parents with information about Curriculum for Excellence and children’s involvement in their own
learning. Please complete and return the attached pro-forma if you would like to attend.
Annual Data Checks
I would like to thank the parents/carers who have returned the Annual Data checks and other consent forms that were
sent home last month. It is vital that the school has up to date information and we ask that any outstanding forms are
completed and returned to school as soon as possible please.
Rainbow Room
The stock of spare clothes in the Rainbow Room is running low (particularly girls’ socks). If you have any clothing
that your child has outgrown, the ladies would be delighted to receive donations of pants, socks, skirts & trousers
suitable for P1-P3.
Thank you for your co-operation and continued support. Please do not hesitate to contact the school if you have any
concerns about your child.
Yours sincerely
Mrs Carol W Frew
Head Teacher
