Principal’s Message
As I move into my fifth month at EGMJH, I feel it is
important to reflect on the previous months and
acknowledge all the positive experiences I have seen.
EGMJH is a school where our staff are 100%
committed to the achievement of our students. This,
coupled with the wonderful support from home and the
community, has allowed our students to thrive in
academics, athletics, and personal growth. The climate
in this school is one where our students feel safe and
they care about each other. The positive way our
students treat other people is like nothing I have
experienced in any other learning environment.
School Dance
The dance was a great success and
a good time was had by all. We
were able to have some fun and collect donations for
Feed Nova Scotia at the same time! Special thanks to
Michael & Lesley Manuel for donating their time and
D.J. services to the school. You guys “rock”! (and
roll)
As our staff develops our Student Success Plan, you
can be assured, our focus will always be in the
unwavering belief that all our students can excel. Our
goals will allow us to develop a system where students
are supported and their learning needs will be met. I
look forward to the next five months and I encourage
you to contact me, should you have any suggestions on
how we can improve the learning experience for your
children. Your feedback is always welcome.
Girlspace
Sponsored by the YWCA, Girlspace is a lunchtime
program where all female students at EGMJH are
invited to come and learn about leadership skills, talk
about important issues and enjoy some free snacks!
Interested? Please contact Dee at
d.dooley@ywcahalifax.com , call (902) 423-6163 ext.

Thank-you,
Scott Wadden
Principal

cost of the book is $35.00. Please see Ms.

Peanut / Scent Sensitive School
Eric Graves is a peanut sensitive school. We have
students who are highly allergic to peanuts or foods
that contain peanuts. Please refrain from sending these
types of foods to school. Also please remember that
“spray products” such as AXE cologne are not to be
used at school.
Tiger Tutors
Math help! Tiger Tutors is an afterschool program
designed to have students helping students with Math.
This club is supervised by our very own Ms. Stirling,
and is open to grade 7 & 8 students. Please contact
Ms. Stirling for further details.
Quebec Trip
The grade 9 trip to Quebec has been booked for May
29th to June 2nd. Our “Loto Tree” Fundraiser was a
huge success and was won by community member
Susan Fewer. Thank you to the fundraising
committee and all who participated in this fantastic
event!
Unfortunately our bottle drive that was scheduled for
January is cancelled. The fundraising committee is
hoping to organize another event in February.
Lunch Orders
New order forms will be sent home the first week of
January with Pizza Fridays starting on January 8th,
Subway Mondays starting on January 11th and Pita
Wednesdays starting on January 13th.
Extended Child Studies
Ms. Constable and our Extended Child Studies class
have been creating a great relationship with our feeder
school Bel Ayr Elementary. Students have been
helping out weekly in various ways, including reading
with a grade 1 class, assisting with arts and crafts and
helping out at their annual gift day. EGMJH students
have been a great help and shown leadership while
meeting the outcomes for the child studies curriculum.
We look forward to growing this relationship and
enjoying these experiences as the year goes on.
