I hope you all had a relaxing and enjoyable break. Report Cards The students all received their report cards before the holiday break and overall the students did exceptionally well. Congratulations to those students who achieved marks which put them on the Principal’s, High Honors and Honors Lists for their work first term. A total of 85 students (53%) have received these honors. Their achievements will be posted in the front hallway of the school as well as attached to this newsletter. We are very proud of the successes of all the students this term and look forward to adding more names to the honors lists next term. Congratulations!!! Prince Andrew High School – Grade 10 Course Selections Teachers from Prince Andrew will be here over the next two months to give presentations to our grade 9 students on grade 10 course selection along with information on the International Baccalaureate and O2 programs available at Prince Andrew High School. January 29th (a.m.) - High School Guidance Counselors, along with other staff, will be here to give a presentation to the Grade 9 students on the overall course selection process at High School. Students will hear about the different classes available to them at the grade 10 level. February 4th (p.m.) Staff from Prince Andrew will be here to speak to the students about the Pre- International Baccalaureate Program. They will give an overview of the program so students are able to go home and speak with their parents about the expectations and requirements. February 11th (p.m.) - Staff from Prince Andrew will be here to speak to the students about the O2 (Options and Opportunities) Program. Students will gain an understanding of this program along with the application and interview process. February 17th (p.m.) – Math teachers from Prince Andrew will be at the school to review the Math courses offered at Prince Andrew High School. This will help students to make an informed choice on what will be the best math for them to register for in Grade 10. February 24th - Students who are interested in the Pre-IB Program will be attending Prince Andrew to take part in the “IB test drive”. This gives students an opportunity to see what happens during the day-to-day classes so they have a good understanding of the program. All registration for courses will be done on-line. (More information to follow on this process). February 12th - Parent Information Session held at Prince Andrew - Course Selection Process, International Baccalaureate Program and O2 Program On the evening of February 12th at 6:00 p.m., Prince Andrew High School will be hosting an information session for all parents. Information will be available so parents can make informed decisions with their children regarding course selection. Information on Grade 10 course selection as well as presentations on the Pre - IB Program and O2 Program will take place at this meeting. Anxiety – the “new” normal – The SAC of Caledonia Junior High has arranged a presentation at the Prince Andrew High School AV room for parents of the PA Family of Schools. Anxiety is a topic that is coming up from elementary age right through to high school. Dr. Daniel Chorney will be addressing the importance of anxiety in our lives and the skill development that kids need in order to manage everyday anxieties. Many parents Phone: 435-8325 Safe Arrival: 435-8325 today are sheltering their kids to the point that they rarely need to face stressful situations and therefore not developing independent skills in dealing with anxieties associated with those situations. These can be around test anxieties, assignment/presentation avoidance, social anxieties and even total school avoidance. Dr. Chorney will be offering a 50 min informational PowerPoint followed by a 30-40 min fishbowl open question period (no oneon-one questions due to potential confidentiality concerns). This presentation will be held on Thursday, Feb 5 at 7:00 p.m. at the PAHS auditorium Karen Dale Principal What’s Normal – The grade 7 students will be participating in a special conference at Eric Graves on Feb 5th & 6th. The conference is aimed at giving students a wider view of the world and to help them appreciate the challenges young people face growing up in other parts of the world. The students will be participating in workshops, listening to speakers and learning about the wider global community. More details will be given to the Grade 7 students before the conference. Students of the Month Congratulations to the students listed below whom have been chosen as the Student of the Month for the month of December, 2014. These students are chosen by their teachers as having made an outstanding positive contribution to the environment of the school and classroom. Each student receives a certificate as recognition of their achievement, and a small prize.
