Friday 11th September 2015 Year 5 Weekly Newsletter Our topic is ‘Seax Settlers’ (Saxons). What have we done this week? The children have been undertaking benchmarking assessments. They have all tried exceptionally hard, and demonstrated great determination. Children enjoyed researching and understanding ‘Den Day’ with a focus on Save the Children charity. The children showed maturity and respect whilst discuss people less fortunate than themselves. All children and staff thoroughly enjoyed building the dens on Thursday. The children showed that they could work well in teams and share ideas. We have started to research e-safety and how to stay safe online, this will inform a presentation which the children will create and share with a KS1 class to teach them about esafety. What can you do at home to support our learning at school? Read a range of texts and genres for twenty minutes a day. Please remember to sign diaries. Practice reciting multiplication tables. Continue to research Anglo-Saxons to develop a broader understanding. What’s happening next week? Please remember P.E kits for Monday and Tuesday. Children to begin Literacy, Numeracy and Reading lessons. Children will be starting their outdoor P.E sessions and we will be learning Basketball. Please remind children to bring appropriate kits. If your child has been well-behaved at school all week and followed our Golden Rules, a text will be sent home on a Friday to celebrate your child’s fantastic behaviour. Staff are available on a Monday night after school from 3.15 – 4pm if you would like to talk to us about your child and need a longer time to talk to us rather than a ‘quick word’ before or after school. Have a great week! Mr Wright and Mrs Prydderch
