Syllabus
Hello students and welcome to your seventh grade year at El Cerrito Middle School. In
Language Arts Academy class we will be reviewing the concepts from previous years in
language arts as well as working to ensure your success in your current language arts
class.
Student Expectations
Each student will be expected to follow the school rules as outlined in the student
handbook. Students will be expected to be prepared and on time to class. Students will
also be expected treat classmates, school property, other students’ property, and staff
members with respect. It is expected to have planner signed by a parent NIGHTLY.
Assignments
All course work will be completed in class. There is NO HOMEWORK in this class. All
of the assignments will be completed or placed in a spiral notebook that can be used for
assistance or reference in other current and future language arts classes and on their
assignments. Notebooks will be checked every Wednesday.
Late/ Absent/ or Missing Assignments
All absent work will need to be completed by the notebook check every Wednesday. If a
student is absent on a Wednesday, the notebook check will occur the following
Wednesday. If a student has an incomplete assignment, they can complete it for half
credit and turn it in on the following Wednesday notebook check. All missing
assignments from the notebook will be counted as a zero until turned in and corrected by
teacher.
Supplies
Students will need a spiral notebook. Students will also need pencils, pens (blue or black
only), and highlighters. Students should always have their planner with them to write
down changes to homework assignments, up coming test dates, project due dates, and any
additional reminders.
Grades
Students will be graded based on the completion of assignments from class, participation
in class, work on toward grade level state standards through projects and their class
behavior. Remember, this is a supplemental language arts class to assist the student
mastering grade level language arts concepts. This is NOT a second 7th grade level
language arts class. The goal of this class is to support with additional instruction and
assistance students’ progress in their grade level language arts class.
***Follow the progress of your student online through Q parent connect. All students
will be taught how to access their progress through Q student connect and add printouts
of their grades to their notebook every Wednesday to chart their progress.
This syllabus must be signed and kept in the student portfolio. Attached is a copy for you
to keep for your records. If you have any concerns throughout the year, please contact me
