Week 8 Term 4
Friday 27th November 2015
Dear Parents and Carers,
This is the last newsletter for the year and what a great year it has been at Marburg State School.
Over the last 4 years in my role as Principal I have grown as a person, teacher and Principal. I am
passionate about the education and wellbeing of each student in our school and appreciate the
fantastic support of the staff, P&C and families within our school community. I look forward to our
learning experience in 2016 and would like to take the opportunity to wish all of you a safe and
joyous Christmas and New Year.

Swimming Carnival
Next Tuesday the 1st December is our Marburg swimming carnival.
Students will travel to and from the pool by bus as usual and return to
school at the end of the carnival. Parents and families are welcome to
attend for an admittance fee of $1 each. Please come along and cheer
on the students. The following week is free swim morning at the pool for students.
Tallebudgera Camp
The year 5/6 camp to Tallebudgera was a huge success with students enjoying all of the activities
and challenges put to them. To the year 5 students, think of it as a warm up for the Canberra trip
which will be July 25th- July 29th next year. So let’s get our thinking caps on for some fund raising
ideas.
Student Free Days 2016
Due to the Australia day holiday falling on Tuesday 26th January next year the Government has
decided to allow for an extra student free day on Monday 25th January. This means that
students will return for the first day of Term 1 on Wednesday 27th January.
End of Year Break-up
This year the whole school will travel to Southbank for Break-up day. Students will travel by train
from Rosewood Station into Southbank for a day of swimming and lunch. Students need to be
dropped at the Rosewood Train Station no later than 7.45am and will return for pick up by
parents at 3pm. As this is a school excursion students are reminded to wear full school uniform
including hat and covered shoes and are also required to bring the following items- water bottle,
togs, sunshirt for swimming, towel and sunscreen. There is no cost associated with the
excursion for students but permission notes are due back this week. Parents are most welcome
to attend but will need to purchase their own train fare and are responsible for their own
lunch.
Thank you
Presentation Evening
Presentation evening will be held next Wednesday 2 nd December from 6pm
in our school hall. Parents and families are invited to attend to come and
watch and listen to the students perform songs, plays, poems and receive
awards. This event is followed by a shared supper- which means we all
bring a plate of food which can be delivered to the school during the day.
The event will conclude at approximately 8.30pm. Please contact the office
for any further details. Thank you.
Graduation Dinner
Graduation dinner for the year 6 students will be held on Friday 4 th
December at the Marburg Hotel at 6pm. Menus and invitations have been
previously sent home. Please return attendance note and money for dinner to Mrs Newton by
Monday 30th November so as to finalise details with the hotel. If you have any further queries
please contact Mrs Newton. Thank you.
Report cards
Report Cards will be sent home with students on Monday 7 th December.
PREP-1 NEWS
The last word from me this year! How quickly the term has passed. I have had such a good year
and I hope the students have too.
What a great day we had at the zoo. The drive out was so beautiful with the welcome rain making
everything different shades of green. Although there were not a lot of different animals there, the
children were wide-eyed. They loved the fact that they could feed some of the animals. The
wildlife keeper gave us lots of information about the lions and tiger. She also showed us, when
they were feeding, just how enormous in size these cats are. She also was very informative about
the different types of monkeys and feeding time was certainly fast and furious. The tapir from
South America was a very strange one indeed! Everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves and
there were some heavy eyelids on the way home. Max, our driver, was very impressed with the
behaviour of the students on his bus. When writing about their trip, it was quite surprising that
they wrote about the Australian animals and not those exotic ones they had never seen in real life
before.
We have been rehearsing for Presentation Evening. For our item, the boys in the class need to
wear a black t-shirt and colourful shorts and the girls to wear a white t-shirt and colourful shorts or
skirt. They could have a Christmas hat for the last item of the evening but this is not necessary.
For those parents of students that are moving up a class or going to other schools, please accept
my thanks for supporting your child in his/her year of learning. The Early Years are the foundation
years and as such, are a very important part of your child’s education.
I wish you all a very happy and safe holiday and enjoy your child/children over this period as they
are only little for such a short period of time.
Buon Natale,
Ciao, Gail
2-4 NEWS
Hello Everyone,
As the end of year draws to a close there is still much for the school to do. In order to assist with
these operations occurring as smoothly as possible, please hold back the Christmas cards and
candy canes until the final week of school (week 10). This allows the students to remain focused
and engage for the maximum amount of time whilst we prepare for presentation night, final
assessments and a thousand other small items. As I am sure you can understand, a class full of
sugared up students adds an extra challenge to a class which is already tired from the terms work
and excited about the Christmas break approaching. Thank you for your support in this matter.
The students have done an amazing job with their oral presentation on their country. Several
students still have to share with the class, at the time this was written. With school being
preparation for life, students are expected to have their assessments ready on time or at least very
close to time. Some students were very late to perform and this has affected their overall grade.
Students were also reminded to “own” their assessments and complete the work as independently
as possible. It is always a shame when work has obviously been completed by someone, other
than the student, and on a professional level, makes the piece impossible to grade. I am sure
teachers everywhere would agree.
I would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank all students and parents for their support and
assistance throughout the year. This
support allows the school, and myself, the
very best conditions in which to educate
and generally care for each and every
student. Also a great BIG thanks to our
terrific P&C who most recently paid for our
visit to Darling Downs Zoo. The day was
enjoyed by all, with the students learning a
great deal about a variety of animals.
I look forward to seeing you all at
presentation night.
I wish you all a safe, non-fattening and
merry Christmas season and a wonderful
New Year 

5-6 NEWS
Hello, well here we are, the last newsletter for the year and as I have said before it has been a
wonderful year with the year 5/6 class. Last week we all ventured to the Gold Coast to attend
camp at Tallebudgera Beach School. Throughout the week students participated in the following
activitiesSurf awareness and body boarding, raft building, rock wall challenges, fishing, canoeing,
tobogganing, beach challenges and tally challenges that all aimed at the 5 keys to success. These
keys are central to social and emotional learning and are the same keys we focus on through our
chaplaincy program at school. They are as follows-:
Organisation, Confidence, Getting Along, Persistence and Resilience.
Over the last 2 weeks we have many events and activities for students so it is very important that
families take notice of the date claimers at the bottom of this newsletter. A reminder of the
following events for our class are as follows-:
 Swimming Carnival- Tuesday 1st December
 Presentation evening- Wednesday 2nd December- 6pm start and please bring plate for
shared supper
 Year 6 Graduation Dinner- Friday 4th for a 6pm start at the Marburg Hotel
 Year 6 Orientation Day at Lowood SHS – Monday 7th December
 Secret Santa/Class party- Tuesday 8th December (after swimming)
 Break-up day at Southbank- Thursday 10th December- drop off at Rosewood Train Station
by 7.45am and pick up from Rosewood Station at 3pm.
We are all looking forward to the events over the next 2 weeks as a time of celebration for all of
the great work the students have done over the last 12 months. It has been a pleasure to be the
Year 5/6 teacher for 2015. Next year due to a smaller cohort in the year 5 group I will be teaching
a multi- level of year 4/5/6. I wish all of my families a safe and happy Christmas and New Year.
There will be no homework for the year 5/6 class in week 9 and 10.
Until next time,
Mrs N
