Something has happened.
Something frightening, and perhaps difficult to talk about.
But telling can sometimes be hard.
When you have been subjected to harm and abuse, it is not always easy to tell. It can be hard to understand that what happened was harm, abuse - and a crime. No one may harm someone else, physically, psychological, sexually or economically. A person with a disability has the right to be treated with respect and to receive the help and support everyone is entitled to.
Sometimes a tool with systematic and structured questions is needed to start communicating. By help of images and simple questions one can start finding out what actually happened. For persons with speaking difficulties this booklet is a tool to support oral questions and answers.
Utvecklingscentrum Dubbelt Utsatt ( The Development Centre Double Exposure) invents methods and spreads information about violence against women with disabilities. This booklet has been produced to be used in emergency situations or when harm and abuse is suspected. Some of the Picto images in this booklet are new and have been developed in cooperation with The National Agency for Special Needs Education and Schools.
