• 1. How is the New Deal viewed today?
Conservatives feel FDR made the gov’t too big and interfered w/
free enterprise and individual initiative
Liberals feel FDR did not do enough to socialize the economy and
end poverty in US
• 2. What effect did New Deals policies have on labor, agriculture,
banking, and finance?
– Labor: set standards for wages & hours, elminated child labor,
and ensured the right to unionize
– Agriculture: put quotas on crop production to control surplus and
low prices
– Banking & Finance: created laws to regulate sale of stocks and
bonds; protected savings from bank failures
• 3. What was unique about the New Deal’s social policies?
– Old-age insurance; unemployment compensation, and aid to
disabled and families with dependent children
• 4. What did the New Deal do for the environment?
– Planted trees, taught farmers how to conserve soil, reduced
grazing on public lands; built dams to prevent flooding; created
national parks; strip mining and coal burning polluted
environment
