Juliet parts A B C
There are 3 main
characters that will
probably come up…who
are they?
o
In order to answer the a have to know a bit about
question you have to know a bit about the characters
and their actions and emotions in act V.
What adjectives can you think of that describe these
characters?
Juliet
Friar
Question A
• It asks a question about a character.
• You ONLY answer on the EXTRACT.
• You say THREE things you learn, using PEE.
• When you start looking at the extract, THINK about
what you know about the character and LOOK for
quotations you know you could TALK about.
Section A: What do you learn about … in
this extract?
Remember
•Underline quotes
you know you can
talk about.
•Be clear about what
event the extract is
talking about
•Talk about the
named character
Band 2
Some understanding. This means you say what you learn
about ?????in the extract, but don’t use the best
quotations/ or explain them properly.
Band 3
Sound Understanding. This means you make three or
four good points about ?????using the extract, using
correct quotations and giving a good explanation.
FRIAR LAURENCE
Unhappy fortune! by my brotherhood,
The letter was not nice but full of charge
Of dear import, and the neglecting it
May do much danger. Friar John, go hence;
Get me an iron crow, and bring it straight
Unto my cell.
FRIAR JOHN
Brother, I'll go and bring it thee.
Exit
What do you learn about
the friar in this passage?
FRIAR LAURENCE
Now must I to the monument alone;
Within three hours will fair Juliet wake:
She will beshrew me much that Romeo
Hath had no notice of these accidents;
But I will write again to Mantua,
And keep her at my cell till Romeo come;
Poor living corse, closed in a dead man's tomb!
Your turn
•Underline three or four things you know you could
talk about if you had this question
“What do you learn about Friar in this extract?”
A good BAND 3 answer
Sound understanding of the character.
Good textual reference with explanation!
This means
•Three ideas
•A quotation for each
•A clear explanation that
links to your quote
P: One thing I learnt is.....
E: I know this because.....
E: This shows me because.......................
The performance question
• You will get a few lines that have been
taken out of the extract…where 2
characters are talking
• You have to say how the characters are
feeling.
• You have to mention facial expression,
movement, gesture, tone, position.
• You have to explain how certain, important
lines might be specifically delivered.
• You have to say how the ACTING shows
the EMOTION-don’t just say (for example)
they look angry.
In the performance question B
You have to consider these points:
•
•
•
•
•
Actions towards others
Positions with others
Gestures
voice
Facial Expression
If you are doing the higher paper you
will not get these bullet points on your
paper but you might want to find a way
of remembering them.
The way I remember them is:
a
pot of
gold is
very
much
fun
(actions)
(positions)
(gestures)
(voice)
(movement)
(Facial expressions)
How would the characters perform
these lines?
FRIAR: Come, go, good Juliet,
Noise again
I dare no longer stay.
JULIET
Go, get thee hence, for I will not away.
Firstly what are the bullet points?
C=the theme
question!
What are the
themes?
When else do you see(theme) In the
play?
•What happens and why does it
demonstrate the theme.
•What do they show us about character?
(linked to theme)
•How does it influence the rest of the
action?
•What impact does it have on us as the
audience? How does it make us feel?
Imagine you have just looked at
the scene where Romeo attacks
Paris.
Imagine the C questions ask
“Write about another time anger
or conflict is important in the
play”
What part would you choose?
Imagine you have just looked at
the scene where The friar is
rushing to stop Romeo getting to
the tomb
Imagine the C questions ask
“Write about another time loyalty
or friendship is important in the
play”
What part would you choose?
The fight scene is a really key scene as
it cover most of the themes if I were you
I’d revise that scene really well and
think about how it links to all the themes
How does it link to:
Love?
death ?
Friendship?
power?
Loyalty?
Conflict?
Revenge?
Fate?
Rivalry?
Imagine you have just looked at
the scene where Romeo has
found out Juliet might be dead
from Balthazar
Imagine the C questions ask
“Write about another time Fate is
important in the play”
