Who is the presenter? What is the difference? How Who What When Where Why How Who is the coordinator? Who is the presenter? What is the difference? The presenter is the best person to make the ask. People cannot say “no” to this person. He or She has influence in the unit and is respected. The presenter has high expectations, often shapes unit culture. The presenter & the coordinator can be one individual. However in very effective units the two work in tandem to achieve their goal. Who What When Where Why How Say, what’s Friends of Scouting all about? Key concepts for the presenter to share • • • • • • • “You should all know our Pack participates in the FOS Campaign every year.” “I am giving my annual gift tonight and I hope you will join me.” “We are the Cascade Pacific Council, all of us, every Scout & every adult.” “This is not same as our fundraisers. Those are for boys to earn their own way selling popcorn. FOS is an invitation to all families who support Scouting.” “We will collect your pledges & later contact those who couldn’t make it tonight. Every family will get the opportunity to participate.” “FOS IS ABOUT YOUR SCOUT…” “Your contribution delivers Scouting to boys outside our unit, outside our neighborhood, boys we will never meet. They need Scouting too.” Who What When Where Why How Timing is Everything! Tips shared by units that achieve their goals every year• Start January. All-turned-in by February. On with the show! • No surprise attacks- announce verbally, email, inform, explain, define terms, & set expectations all prior to your presentation • Schedule your presentation for the largest audience, typically the Pack’s Blue & Gold Banquet & the Troop’s Court of Honor • Your presentation must be near the top of the agenda & be sure it lists no financial matters but FOS (dues collection/bake sale will confuse) • Don’t squeeze in FOS before the audience gets food Who What When Where Why How Where is Friends of Scouting done? BEST PRACTICES – The units that do a great job at Friends of Scouting say this: • Start in your committee meeting. The committee needs to understand the campaign and lead by example. This also lets parents know “the committee has already raised $_____.” • Don’t be a small voice in a big room. Make sure you’re heard. • FOS mentioned in more than one place: pre-announced, then presented, then followed up. cpcbsa.org/fosisaboutyourscout
