My Body PowerPoint By Nicole Auvil Teacher Mrs.Quigley Homeroom 101 The Skeletal System • A skeleton is a frame that holds up your body. It is made up of bone and cartilage. Bones make up the hard part of your skeleton. All vertebrates have a skeletons. Vertebrates are all animals with a back bone. Healthy Hints! If you exercise your bones every day, they will become stronger! http://www.exrx.net/Store/OtherImages/SkeletalSystem3.jpg The Skeletal System (Part 2) • The skeletal system is a series of bones. These bones protect our organs heart, lungs, etc. All of those bones hold up your whole entire body! If you didn’t have bones, you would flop around like a jelly fish. When you break bones, It takes a long time to heal. Try not to break bones. Your skeleton is very important. http://www.alexandriaanimals.org/~awla/animals/ferrets.jpg Muscles of the Body • Your muscles are what make you strong! Muscles are what allow you to bend your arms and legs. They can expand and contract. If you didn’t have muscles, your heart wouldn’t beat because muscles keep your heart beating. Muscles are essential to everyday life. • HEALTHY HINTS!!! EXERSIZE YOUR MUSCLES EVERY DAY AND YOUR MUSCLES WILL BE STRONGER! ://www.human-body-facts.com/human-bodymuscle-diagram.html Muscles of the Body (Part 2) • Muscles hold your head up, that is a VERY important job. There are about 640 skeletal muscles in the human body. Some of your muscles act on their own, like your heart. While others, you control. Thousands of rubber band like fibers make them up. http://www.innerbody.com/image/musfov.html • http://www.laboratorium.dist.unige.it/~piero/Teaching/ The Skin • Your skin is the largest organ in your whole entire body! It is Healthy Hints !!!! If you moisturize your skin, important because it holds all of It ill be healthy!! your blood and guts in. Your skin also allows you to have a sense of touch. Also, it keeps your body at just the right temperature. http://training.seer.cancer.gov/images/melano ma/skin.jpg The Skin (Part 2) Your skin has three layers the epidermis, the dermis, and the subcutaneous layer. The epidermis Is translucent and has no blood vessels. The dermis nourishes the epidermis and contains hair glands. it also holds sweat glands and blood vessels. The subcutaneous layer is an energy reserve for the body and it stores fat. The Nervous System • The nervous system connects the brain to the spinal cord. This takes messages from your brain to all of the rest of your body and tells them when to move. Neurons send signals to other cells, that is how they know how to move. Neurons travel along axons. The Nervous System (part 2) The nervous system is made up of your brain, spinal cord, and a network of nerves that go through your whole entire body. It controls your body. Neurons carry messages to and from different parts of your body using a type of electricity! Neurons are shaped like flat stars! Healthy Hints!!!!! To calm your nerves, take a deep breath! http://www.buzzle.com/img/articleIma ges/271257-55223-53.jpg http://www.halecliniconline.c om/images/autonomicnervous-system.gif The Digestive System • Your digestive system is an essential part to every day life. When you eat, it turns the food into mush. This helps your body because when the food goes on to your stomach, it can’t handle big chunks of food. • Healthy Hints!!!!!!!! • Try to eat fruit often so you don’t get constipated http://www.animalpictures1.com/r-ferret-57ferret-912.htm http://www.genesishealth.com/img/ewebeditor/E _digestiv.jpg The Digestive System (Part 2) Your digestive system is made up of the digestive tract. The digestive tract is a series of hollow organs. These organs are joined to a hollow tube that goes from the mouth to the anus. The organs that make up the digestive tract are the mouth, esophagus, stomach, and the small intestine. The digestive tract has a layer of smooth muscle that helps break down food. http://digestive.niddk.nih.gov/dd iseases/pubs/yrdd/ The Circulatory System You can’t live without your circulatory system. It pumps blood through your body and that is very needed. Your heart is behind all of that pumping. There are arteries and veins that go to your body from your heart and from your heart to your body. The arteries carry blood with oxygen and the veins carry blood without oxygen. You wouldn’t be alive without your circulatory system. Healthy Hints!!!!!!! If you eat junk food, your arteries will get blocked and you could have a stroke. http://www.doereport.com/imagescooked/4528W.j pg The Circulatory System (Part 2) • Your circulatory system is made up of blood vessels and the muscles that help control the blood flow around your body. The main parts of it are heart, veins, capillaries, and arteries. The blood leaves the heart and goes to the aorta. When the blood leaves the aorta, it is full of oxygen. The oxygen blood travels through your body. When it comes back to the heart, it drops off carbon dioxide and picks up oxygen from your lungs. http://www.glogster.com/media/2/4/0/83/4008 337.gif http://library.thinkquest.org/5777/cir1.htm The Respiratory System • Your respiratory system is how you breathe! When you breathe in air through your mouth or nose it goes to your lungs and puts oxygen in your blood. Your blood needs oxygen, as you read in “The Circulatory System”. Your life would be very bad if you didn’t have your respiratory system. http://library.thinkquest.org/5777/resp1.htm The Respiratory System (Part2) • We breathe to get rid of carbon dioxide and to take in oxygen. The oxygen goes to your blood cells. The respiratory system includes airways, lungs, and respiratory muscles. Without your respiratory system, you wouldn’t be able to talk! http://kidshealth.org/kid/cancer_center/HTB • Healthy Hints!!!!! Don’t put anything in or near your mouth that is not food because you could inhale it and choke. The Heart • Your heart is very important. It keeps the blood pumping through your body. It sends blood without oxygen to your lungs and blood with oxygen to the rest of your heart. • Healthy Hints!!!!!! Keep active so you don’t have a heart attack. The Heart (Part2) • Your heart is a muscle that pumps blood through your body using steady contractions. If it is healthy, it will beat approximately 72 times per minute. The main parts of your heart are the left ventricle, right ventricle, left atrium, right atrium, and the pulmonary artery.
