Human Body Systems Project Tree Map Human Body Systems Circulatory System Respiratory System Digestive System Nervous System Musculoskeletal System Function Function Function Function Function Structure Structure Structure Structure Structure What is the function? What are the structures? • The function is the job or action that the system does. • The structures are the parts that work together to help the system do its job. Match the function to the body system • Circulatory System • Respiratory System • Digestive System • Nervous System • Musculoskeletal System • The job of this system is to carry gases between the outside air and your blood. • This system controls how your muscles move your bones by carrying electrical signals from your brain, to your spinal cord, to your muscles. • This system is a transportation system that carries food and oxygen to each cell and then takes away cells’ wastes. • This system supports the body, protects organs, makes blood cells and moves your body parts. • The job of this system is to break down food and change it so that food can enter the blood and get to cells. Body systems would not be able to complete their functions without specific structures . Examples of structures within body systems: – The circulatory system needs the heart to pump the blood throughout the body. – The respiratory system needs the trachea to carry air from the larynx to the lungs. – The digestive system needs teeth to bite and crush food into smaller pieces that will be easier to swallow, break down and digest. – The nervous system needs nerves to carry the electrical signals from the brain to the muscles. – The musculoskeletal system needs bones like ribs to protect organs and muscles like the bicep to help move the arm.
