students who are interested in the voice therapy area.
2.5-day workshop:

Course Description:

The course provides theoretical background and practical training in
Lessac-Madsen Resonant Voice Therapy (LMRVT). This is an
approach to voice therapy, appropriate for patients with hyper- and
hypofunctional voice disorders.
Highlights of LMRVT:

“HOLISTIC, FUNCTIONAL & EVIDENCE-BASED”

A target laryngeal configuration can be identified which tends to produce
the strongest voice output using the least amount of pulmonary effort,
and also coincides with relatively low vocal fold impact stresses.

Funny approach of voice therapy for dysphonic kids

The course will (1) cover the basic scientific information behind the
premises; (2) provide detailed step-by-step information about the
implementation of LMRVT with both adults & kids; and (3) provide
practical demonstrations of the approach in both English & Cantonese
(Dr. Karen Chan will be the Cantonese demonstrator).
About the presenter:

Dr. Verdolini Abbott (Ph.D., CCC-SLP) is Professor of Communication
Sciences and Disorders in the School of Health and Rehabilitation
Sciences at the University of Pittsburgh. Her general area of interest is
clinical voice science. Her current research focuses on the role of
vocalization for wound healing in the larynx, motor learning principles
applied to models of voice therapy, and clinical trials in voice therapy. She
has received one K08 award and two R01 research awards from the
National Institute on Deafness and she serves as consultant on other
research awards from the National Institutes of Health. She is Editor for
Speech for the Journal of Speech, Language, and Hearing Research.

Dr. Verdolini Abbott developed and conducts workshops
on a systematic approach to voice therapy for hyper- and
hypofunction, Lessac-Madsen Resonant Voice Therapy.
Memberships include the American Speech-LanguageHearing Asso., of which she is Fellow, the Voice and Speech
Trainers Asso., and the National Asso. of Teachers of Singing.
Upon finishing the course:

The participating speech therapists will become the certified providers of
LMRVT (adults & kids) approach, and

will be able to train up adults, schoolers & preschoolers to produce their
strongest voice with least amount of pulmonary effort, following the
LMRVT step by step program.
