IV International Opera Competition Giacinto Prandelli
The Fourth International Opera Competition “Giacinto Prandelli”
was born as a commitment to the promotion of young talent in
the field of opera, in the wake of remembrance and teaching of the
great tenor born in Lumezzane (Italy) in 1914 and passed away
in 2010. The competition will take place in Brescia with five days
of auditions/selections, with candidates assessed by a judicatory
commission, made up of eminent personalities from the world of
opera including famous artists, theatrical agents, artistic directors
of theaters, singing teachers and musicians.
You can subscribe to the competition within 12 p.m. of January 19th,
2015. The final evening will be held at the Teatro Grande in Brescia
Saturday, February 7th, 2015, accompanied by the Brixia Symphony
Orchestra and will be open to the public.

The competition will be held in Brescia
IV International Opera Competition Giacinto Prandelli
in February from 2nd to 7th, 2015 and will be regulated
by the following Rules:
Art. 1 Timetable for registration
The International Voice Competition “Giacinto Prandelli” is for singers of any nationality of either
sex; the age limit is 35 years of age as at February 1st 2015.
The deadline for registration shall be fixed no later than January 19th, 2015
Art. 2 Program
Each candidate will present, to memory and in their original language, seven (7) opera songs in
original key and language (the transpositions are permitted when consolidated on by tradition
without prejudice to the sole discretion of the judicatory Commission that will inform the candidate
within January 24, 2015, in case of non-acceptance, with the option of replacing the song with another
no later than the following eight days). The list of songs chosen by the candidate, completed by the
recitatives and cabalettas must include:
A) A chamber air by 600 or 700th and / or a Lied, Song, Chanson
B) a piece of sacred music, oratorio, cantata or the Mass
C) five different arias taken from operas by Author and any period, including two necessarily choices
from the list at the bottom of this announcement. The candidate will perform these arias in case of
admission in the Final during the evening of February 7th, 2015
The competitor must report to the elimination round and Semifinal with the musical material of
his program.
Art. 3 Conduct of the tests
The competition is divided into three rounds:
First eliminatory test:

The candidate will perform three pieces chosen from those presented including:
1) an aria from the opera without limitation by Author and any period
2) a chamber air 600th or 700th and / or Lied, Song, Chanson
3) a piece of sacred music, oratorio, cantata or Mass
Second round (semifinal)

The semi-finalists will have to sing two arias selected from those submitted, other than those
performed for the eliminatory test.
The eliminatory test and the semifinal will take place behind closed doors.
Final test publishes, in a concert with orchestra to the presence of the public, at the Teatro Grande
in Brescia on Saturday, February 7th 2015. Candidates will be accompanied by Brixia Symphony
Orchestra conducted by Giovanna Sorbi.
Those admitted will have to perform two pieces from the list of compulsory pieces, anyway different
from those of the eliminatory test and semifinal.
At the end of the evening, the winners will be announced.
Art. 4 Exemption from the preliminary round
The winners of the first prizes of international competitions in Europe (no category) maximum
seniority 4 years (including 2011), shall be exempted from eliminatory test: The competitor will have
to send, in support of his application for admission, the original or a notarized photocopy, diploma

or certificate of award. The Commission will verify the veracity of the documents submitted by the
applicant at its sole discretion.
Art. 5 Collaborator Pianists
Competitors will have as official accompanist a pianist with proven ability.
In the first elimination round candidates will have the opportunity to be accompanied by a
pianist of trust, entirely paid by the competitor.
Competitors may try it with a pianist before their performance, for 10 minutes maximum
Art. 6 Ratings
The jury’s decisions are final. The jury expresses judgments in Yes / No (eliminatory first test), votes
in tenths (semifinal and final). Voting will be by secret ballot.
Art. 7 President of Commission
The President of the Commission is the Artistic Director of the Competition which may delegate
from year to year the Presidency of the Competition, but will remain a member of the Commission

The member of the Commission who has a student in the competition must abstain from voting on.
Art. 9 Summons of competitors
Competitors must be provided with the music for voice and piano of the pieces selected for the
program. The order of performance will be determined by lot in Brescia in the presence of a notary
before the first elimination round and no later than January 25th, 2015. The participants admitted in the
order of summons published on www.giacintoprandelli.com website, must bring proof of identity
on February 2nd, 3rd and 4th, 2015 from 9 a.m. to Brescia at the Auditorium San Barnaba, Piazzetta
Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli. The tests in the competition will begin after the ascertainment of the
identity and requirements for participation.
Absent competitors will be excluded and will not be refunded the entry fee. The names of the
candidates selected for the following rounds will be posted on www.giacintoprandelli.com at the
end of each session.
Art. 10 Awards
It will be attributed the following prizes:
First prize € 5.000
Second prize € 3.000
Third prize € 1.500
Scholarship Brescia North Rotary Club € 800
The whole number of prizes will awarded.
The prizes of the winners will be cash settled at the time of the award ceremony (Saturday, February
7th, 2015) to to 50% and the other half (50%) at the end of any expected manifestation combined with
the competition and no later than December 2015. To the winners will be assigned according to the
suitability, roles for productions of the works planned by the Brixia Symphony in the context of the
summer 2015 in the Castle of Padernello organized in collaboration with the Foundation Nymphe
(Borgo San Giacomo, Italy). To the winners may also be assigned roles for other productions during
the 2015 season of the Brixia Symphony Orchestra.
All contest prizes are indivisible. No prizes ex- equo.
Art. 11 Diritto d’immagine
Nel caso di trasmissioni radiofoniche e/o televisive o di registrazioni (CD, supporto digitale, ecc.) o
servizi fotografici di prove o di concerti, i candidati partecipanti al concorso non avranno diritto di
avanzare nessuna pretesa o richiesta finanziaria nei riguardi dell’Ente trasmittente o del Concorso,

consentendo pertanto di realizzare, utilizzare e sfruttare economicamente - in tutto o in parte, anche

in ogni formato e senza alcuna limitazione temporale o territoriale dichiarando di non avere nulla a

For participation the competitors must enclose with the application:
- Two recent photos
- Major studies and artistic activity
- A copy or photocopy of all presented pieces
- A photocopy of the identity card or passport
- A photocopy of the document certifying the payment of the registration fee
The application form and the attached documentation will be accepted
only by post in paper form.
Applications not accompanied by the required documentation will
not be taken into account and the competitor will not be admitted in
the competition: in this case the entry fee will not be refunded.
The documents received by e-mail will
not be taken into account.
The list of candidates eligible to participate in the competition shall
be published no later than January 25th, 2015 on the site
www.giacintoprandelli.com
Art. 13 Privacy Act
Pursuant to Legislative Decree no. 196 of 30 June 2003 (the Italian Data Protection Act), the organizers
present to ensure that the processing of personal data received will be held in respect for human
rights and fundamental freedoms and dignity, particularly with regard to issues of confidentiality
and personal identity. Pursuant to art. 13, the participant authorizes the use or his / her personal
information to enable participation in the competition, placing inthe basis of official data for inclusion
in the lists drawn up, and the communication of information about other similar events or activities
sponsored or organized . Personal data shall be processed in accordance with the limitations and
conditions laid down in Article. 11 of the law on data protection. The processing of data will cover all
the operations provided by. 4, paragraph 1, letter a) of that Act. Personal information will be disclosed
to third parties to which transmission is permitted by law, in particular, personal data willbe reported
in the press, television and radio. The disclosure of personal data is optional, but if permission is
refused in whole or in part, participation in the IV International Opera Competition Giacinto Prandelli

Art. 14 Acceptance of the Regulations
Winners are required to include in their curriculum any artistic awards in the IV International Opera
Competition Giacinto Prandelli . The organization reserves the right to modify these rules, if deemed
necessary, in which case all competitors will be notified immediately.
Competitors who do not accept the changes may require reimbursement of the registration fee only.
The organization of the IV International Opera Competition Giacinto Prandelli accepts no
responsibility for any damage to persons or property - caused by anyone - during the course of the
activities relating to the Competition, before, during and after. Specifically disclaim any liability
with respect to material objects or other things that are considered to be unattended in rooms where
operations are carried out relating to the Contest (Auditorium San Barnaba and the Teatro Grande
in Brescia).
