SHOWS
La Forza del Destino
Melodrama in four acts written by Francesco Maria Piave and Antonio Ghislanzoni
based on the drama Don Álvaro o La fuerza del sino by Ángel Perez de Saavedra. With Italian and English
over titles.
“It is certain that in the La Forza del Destino one’s soul must understand the word and give it expression.”
Giuseppe Verdi had very clear ideas about this and 152 years later finds the director Stefano Poda to
share his views: “La Forza del Destino is a work to listen to and feel in your gut”. This melodrama is the
paradigm of romanticism which Poda tinges with noir and wraps in the fog. The lights cut through
emptiness and strike the scene: there is no decoration, simply a vibration of love, anger and vendetta.
Concert Master and Conductor: JADER BIGNAMINI
Production, costumes and lights : STEFANO PODA
Chorus Master : SALVO SGRÒ

“I tell young people that singing is a matter of apprenticeship: sing well and faithfully perform what has
been written. But, of course, you must feel the magnetic flow of current with others, this sense of
energy". Raina Kabivanska has inspired emotion and taught others to feel emotion. The audience adores
the soprano, the artist with a degree in philosophy, the singer who also has the gift of acting. This show

The choreography of Frédéric Olivieri for the Divertissement from I Vespri Siciliani accompanies the
melancholy serenade of George Balanchine and the feminine elusiveness designed by Roland Petit.

Grigory Sokolov
In a career spanning forty years, he has played with all the major orchestras and more than two hundred
conductors, and yet, before every concert he practices for hours to familiarize himself with the piano he
will be playing. A deep musical thought and technical expertise: Grigory Sokolov is considered to be
amongst the greatest living pianists. At the Teatro Regio di Parma his “feeling” is dedicated to the
nuances of Fryderyk Chopin.
