Verdi Music Festival October 10th – November 4th, 2014 SHOWS La Forza del Destino Melodrama in four acts written by Francesco Maria Piave and Antonio Ghislanzoni based on the drama Don Álvaro o La fuerza del sino by Ángel Perez de Saavedra. With Italian and English over titles. “It is certain that in the La Forza del Destino one’s soul must understand the word and give it expression.” Giuseppe Verdi had very clear ideas about this and 152 years later finds the director Stefano Poda to share his views: “La Forza del Destino is a work to listen to and feel in your gut”. This melodrama is the paradigm of romanticism which Poda tinges with noir and wraps in the fog. The lights cut through emptiness and strike the scene: there is no decoration, simply a vibration of love, anger and vendetta.
