Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) Research Paper
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder or PTSD can develop following a life-threatening event
or series of events which could cause the person to re-experience the event causing them to be
scared even mow this can include intrusive memories, flashbacks, and nightmares (World Health
Organization). PTSD can be triggered by seeing something like a fire if the PTSD is caused by a
fire. PTSD could also be triggered by hearing something like the crackle of a fire or it could be
started by doing something like igniting a stove. Even though 6 in 100 people have PTSD there
is no cure (Veterans Affairs). Symptoms can include Recurrent, unwanted distressing memories
of the traumatic event and Reliving the traumatic event as if it were happening again
(flashbacks) Upsetting dreams or nightmares about the traumatic event Severe emotional distress
or physical reactions to something that reminds you of the traumatic event (Mayo Clinic Staff).
To diagnose PTSD your doctor will most likely perform a physical exam, Do a psychological
evaluation, and Use the criteria in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders
(DSM-5) (Mayo Clinic Staff).
