TODAY’S OBJECTIVES:
Students will examine how the author’s purpose affects
his/her use of language and choice of form.
AGENDA:
1. Read together as a class pp. 90-95, 97-106, 109-110
from The Things They Carried and discuss characters,
plot, etc. Then write a personal narrative (at least one
paragraph) from the viewpoint of Fossie, Mary Anne’s
fiance. What were his thoughts and feelings? Turn in
at end of period. Then, in your reading circle,
complete worksheet on Sweetheart of the Song
Tra Bong from The Things They Carried.
2. Analyze packet about Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
(PTSD). What did you learn from reading this packet?
3. Through film clips, analyze another aspect of war:
coming home (“PTSD”) and its psychological effects
on the soldier and the people around them.
