GERUND (V-ING)
Danh động từ (P1)
A. Hình thức và cách dùng.
Danh động từ có cùng hình thức với hiện tại phân từ.
Ví dụ: Playing, speaking, working.
Nó có thể được dùng như sau:
1. Là chủ từ của một câu:
Dancing bored him (Khiêu vũ khiến anh ta chán ngấy)
2. Bổ ngữ cho động từ:
Her hobby is painting (Thú tiêu khiển của cô ấy là vẽ)
3. Sau giới từ
He was accused of smuggling (Gã bị truy tố về tội buôn lậu)
4. Sau một số động từ nhất đinh: enjoy…
5. Trong các tổ hợp danh từ: a diving board (cầu nhảy)
B. Chức năng của danh động từ
1. Đóng vai trò là Chủ ngữ (S)
Speaking English is easy
Collecting stamps is my hobby
“Seeing is believing”
2. Làm Tân ngữ của động từ (O)
I enjoy watching TV
3. Làm Bổ ngữ của động từ TO BE (C- complement)
“Seeing is believing”
My hobby is collecting stamps.
4. Đứng sau giới từ.
I am afraid of watching horror film.
5. Gerund + N Nhấn mạnh.
A reading lamp = A lamp for reading= đèn đọc sách
A diving board = A board for diving
C. Các trường hợp đặc biệt
1. No + V-ing: dùng trong biển báo
No parking/ No smoking.
2. Viết lại câu:
It is easier to read English than to speak English.
 Reading English is easier than speaking English
3. Have no objection to/ Object to + N/Ving
I have no objection to hearing your story again
4. Look forward to + N/Ving: Mong đợi
I look forward to your reply.
I look forward to hearing from you.
5. To Be Good at + Ving: giỏi việc gì
He is good at diving.
6. To be fond of + Ving: Thích
She is fond of climbing
7. Feel like + Ving: có thích
Do you feel like going out?
8. Approve/Disapprove of + Ving: Phản đối
