This includes standard dimensions, performance characteristics, vibration limits, run-out and other general tolerances. However, WEG sees compliance with standards simply as a minimum requirement. Although these are well thought out by industry experts, they can be of a general nature. Due to the time lapse between revisions, standards do not always keep pace with rapid technological advances and market demands. Understanding these limitations, we step ahead incorporating the latest technology into our products. Our engineers take into consideration the harshest applications motors can be subjected to, by combining recent developments from WEG’s R&D departments with our customers’ needs. WEG is thus setting the standard in the marketplace as a global leader, capable of offering motors manufactured according to all major requirements such as API 541 & 547, NEMA, CSA, UL, JET and SABS. Custom-built products are also available from WEG. Quality Performance WEG, is both an ISO9001 and ISO14001 company (accredited by BVQI from UK), had it’s quality system approved by the most demanding standards such as CSA, UL, JET, CESI, PTB, Germanisher Lloyd, SAA and SABS. AUSEx scheme Before 2001, AUSEx was the only certification scheme available in Australia. This scheme required testing of nominated samples and assessment of dimensional drawings. Upon completion of technical assessment, a certificate of compliance with 10 years validity was issued. This was an approval-based scheme. The AUSEx scheme was phased out in 2004 and replaced by ANZEx and IECEx schemes. ANZEx scheme Introduced in 2001, the ANZEx scheme includes sample assessment and testing, as well as periodic surveillance of the manufacturer’s quality system. Motors certified to ANZEx offer customers peace of mind due to annual auditing of manufacturer’s facilities. ATEX CLASSIFICATION TEMPERATURE CLASSIFICATION ATEX Directive 94/9/EC classifies the equipment to operate on explosive atmospheres into GROUPS and CATEGORIES, following the same classification basis used by CENELEC. The minimum temperature capable of causing the explosion of a gas, vapour or explosive mixture is called the ignition temperature. To avoid any risk of explosion, the motor surface temperature must always remain below the ignition temperature of the explosive atmosphere. Shaft WEG motor shafts are WEG motor shafts are manufactured using SAE/AISI 1040/45 or AISI 4140 steel as standard, providing high mechanical resistance, preventing flexing under load, minimising fatigue for a lifetime of superior performance. Rotor Our die cast aluminium rotors offer lower inertia, higher starting torque, superior mechanical rigidity, cooler rotor temperatures and high speed capability. Thermo-chemically treated low electrical loss magnetic steel laminations yield high operating efficiency and enhanced reliability. Frame WEG motors are made of FC-200 high grade cast iron. The frames are designed using finite element analysis tools to improve mechanical strength, heat dissipation and provide high pressure rating. Nameplate Our 316 grade stainless steel nameplate contains a complete and permanent record of all motor data for future reference. This includes motor serial number, electrical data, Ex certificate number and standards, as well as bearing lubrication information. Fan cover Made of steel plate for frames 63 up to 132M and of cast iron for frames 160M and above. It offers superior mechanical rigidity, corrosion resistance and extended life. W21 Ex-d Flameproof Motor Features Terminal Box Cast iron with generous internal space. It can be rotated by 90o intervals, having one or more threaded cable entry. Available in top or side mounted configurations. Bearings Fitted with the highest quality bearings selected from the best suppliers in the world, designed to ensure long motor life, even under heavy working conditions. Our motors can be mounted in any position, horizontal or vertical, providing the maximum allowable axial & radial thrusts are adhered to. Fan Our fan and fan cover design are instrumental in providing one of the quietest electric motors on the market. Our fans are fully interchangeable with WEG non hazardous area motors, with efficient cooling, ensuring low motor temperature rise, thus minimising winding losses and increasing motor efficiency. Fans are available in cast iron (compulsory for Group I), aluminium or plastic. Winding WEG has developed and patented a spike-resistant wire (WISE®) especially designed to withstand high voltage surges and transients on the order of 5,200V/ microsecond at 5kHz. In addition, the use of class H enamel and CRFI impregnation, ensure high thermal capability and superior dielectric strength. When subject to the stresses of modern inverter-drives, our wire life exceeds standard grade 2 wire by a factor of 10-fold. Stator Our magnetic laminations are thermo-chemically treated to improve electric characteristics, reducing electric losses and operating temperature. Seals WEG motors offer a variety of seals such as V-ring seals, oil seals, lip seals and labyrinth taconite seals providing protection for dusty and wet environments. Zone 21 Ex-tD motors must have Oil seal, WSeal®, W3Seal® or Inproseal. Stator Low loss laminations are used to improve electric characteristics, reducing electric losses and operating temperature. Terminal Box Cast iron with generous internal space. It can be rotated by 90o intervals, having one or more threaded cable entry points. Available in top or side mounted configurations. Our fans are designed to ensure low motor temperature rise, thus minimising winding losses and increasing motor efficiency. Frame WEG motors are made of high grade cast iron or die cast aluminium. The frames are designed using finite element analysis tools to improve mechanical strength, heat dissipation and provide high pressure rating. Nameplate Our 316 grade stainless steel nameplate contains a complete and permanent record of all motor data for future reference. This includes motor serial number, electrical data, as well as bearing lubrication information. Winding WEG has developed and patented a spike-resistant wire (WISE®) especially designed to withstand high voltage surges and transients on the order of 5,200V/microsecond at 5kHz. In addition, the use of class H enamel and CRFI impregnation, ensure high thermal capability and superior dielectric strength. When subject to the stresses of modern inverter-drives, our wire life exceeds standard grade 2 wire by a factor of 10-fold. The patented WSeal® seal consists of V-ring with double lip enclosed by a metallic cap. Terminal Box IP66 degree of protection and made of FC-200 cast iron. It is diagonally split for easier handling of leads and connections. Shaft Made of AISI 1040/45 Steel or AISI 4140 (355 frame). When supplied with roller bearing (factory ordered), the shaft material is AISI 4140. Bearings Supplied with ball bearing. When direct coupled to the load (without axial or radial thrusts), the L10 bearing life exceeds 100,000 hours. Frame Made of high grade cast iron material FC-200, the same density mandated by international standards for explosion proof motors. Feet The motor feet are completely solid for better mechanical strength, allowing easier alignment and installation. Terminal Box Adaptor Motors of frame 225S/M to 355M/L can easily have the terminal box position changed from left to right hand side and vice verse just by changing the position of the terminal box adaptor. Stator Windings All motors are supplied with WISE® (WEG Insulations system evolution) which includes spike-resistant enameled wire 2000 C rated. Fan Cover The fan cover has an aerodynamic design, which results in a significant reduction of noise level and optimized air flow for improved heat dissipation. Material: Steel (63-132) Cast iron (160-355) Fan Fans are bidirectional. Ex-tc and Ex-tb are supplied with a conductive plastic fan. Endshields Designed with fins for better thermal heat dissipation and to ensure low bearing operating temperatures, resulting in extended lubrication intervals. To facilitate condition monitoring, frame 225 to 355 have been designed with flat areas on both ends for better placement of accelerometers. Derate the motor according to a specified derating curve and the motor lowest operating speed. 2. Use forced cooling (must be a certified forced cooling kit, which is available from WEG). 3. Use Optimal Flux® function (no derating required for speeds down to 25Hz). Available by using W21 E2 Ex-n or Ex-tD motor with CFW11 drive. Motor sizing for VSD application, non-WEG VSD 1. When driving constant torque loads, self-ventilated variable frequency driven motors have their torque limited at sub-rated frequency due to ventilation reduction. The following derating must be applied (refer to Drawing 10000769507). Roller bearings can be easily fitted for pulley couplings and sleeve bearings are available for large 2 & 4 pole motors. Terminal Block Increase safety terminal block to effectively prevent incoming leads from turning and short-circuiting. Terminal Box Main and auxiliary terminal boxes are manufactured in FC 200 cast iron or steel with adequate room for main and accessory leads. It can be rotated by 90o intervals, having one or more threaded cable entry points. HV main terminal boxes feature a pressure relief device. Drain Hole Supplied with plastic drain plugs to allow drainage of condensation water. Fan WEG’s fan and fan cover design are instrumental at providing a low noise electric motor. Our fans are designed to ensure low motor temperature rise, thus minimising winding losses and increasing motor efficiency. Winding WEG has developed a special insulation system to withstand voltage surges and transients of modern day applications. In addition, all LV motors are supplied with spike resistant wire and true inverter rated insulation.
