Purpose
People credited with this unit standard are able to: demonstrate
knowledge of Mind and Body as an exercise medium, and
instruct a Mind and Body class.

Explanatory notes
1 Definitions
Exercise Technique is how an exercise task is done including the form the body takes
when doing that exercise.
Choreography refers to how a series of exercises are performed and linked together to
create an exercise routine.
2 Facility policy and procedure refers to the operations manual or documented normal
operating procedures at a fitness facility
3 The candidate must be assessed instructing a class of at least five participants.
Outcomes and evidence requirements
Outcome 1
Demonstrate knowledge of the underlying philosophy, exercises, health and safety and
pre-screening requirements of Mind and Body as an exercise medium.
Range
may include but is not limited to – Yoga, Tai chi, Pilates.
Evidence requirements
1.1
The underlying philosophy of Mind and Body as an exercise medium is
described in terms of stretches and breathing.
Range
1.2
relaxation, energy building, well being, good health, range of motion,
balance, stress reduction.
A basic understanding of each type of exercise is described in terms of the
exercises used and their benefits in accordance with the class plan.

through instruction to enable participants to safely and effectively complete the
class in accordance with the class plan.

enable participants to safely and effectively complete the class in accordance
with the class plan.
