People credited with this unit standard are able to: identify,
gather and assess weather information for an outdoor
experience, apply knowledge of weather information to a
planned outdoor experience, and evaluate weather information
after undertaking an outdoor experience.

Current industry practice refers to practices promoted through industry national
forums, newsletters, and assessments which are generally accepted by experienced
practitioners as safe and relevant, and consistent with sustainable practices. These
will be consistent with any applicable regulatory legislation, standards, and codes,
requirements and/or manufacturer’s recommendations.

For assessment purposes: The candidate’s behaviour must demonstrate
environmental care and consideration of other users of the area, consistent with
minimum impact principles and current industry practice. This includes, where

Evidence requirements
1.1
Sources of weather information and their limitations are identified in terms of
suitability and sufficiency in accordance with current industry practice.
Range
1.2
Accurate field based weather observations are recorded at regular intervals for
the duration of a planned outdoor experience in accordance with current
industry practice.

direction and speed, temperature, precipitation (type and
intensity), barometric pressure.
Weather map symbols are explained in terms of their impact on an outdoor
experience plan in accordance with current industry practice.

council bulletins, newspapers;
a minimum of two are required.

2.1
The assessed weather information is incorporated into the outdoor experiences
plan in accordance with current industry practice.
2.2
Decisions in response to actual weather conditions are appropriate and justified
in accordance with current industry practice.
2.3
Appropriate self management with undertaking a planned outdoor experience is
demonstrated in relation to the weather conditions and in accordance with
current industry practice.
Range
