This unit standard is for managers or supervisors of ferrous
scrap metal yards that supply stock for recycling into steel.
People credited with this unit standard are able to: receive
stock; decide stock location; process stock; and select stock for
next production process.

Definition
Company documentation refers to the documented procedures, manufacturer’s

Outcomes and evidence requirements
Outcome 1
Receive stock.
Evidence requirements
1.1
Loads are inspected to identify non-conformance to delivery advice.
Range
non-conformance includes but is not limited to – weight, nonuseable waste, hazardous scrap.
1.2
Non-conforming loads are dealt with in accordance with company
documentation.
1.3
Stock reconciliations are carried out in accordance with company
documentation.

Decide stock location.
Evidence requirements
2.1
Integrity of stock is maintained in accordance with company documentation.
Range
integrity includes but is not limited to – grade, dimension.
2.2
Stock is stored to meet company requirements for identification, accessibility,
and safety.
2.3
Stock is located for processing and delivery in accordance with company
documentation.
Outcome 3
Process stock.
Evidence requirements
3.1
Stock is selected for processing to enable customer orders to be met.
3.2
Planning and organisation of personnel, plant, transport, and processing options
enables customer’s orders to be met in accordance with company
documentation.
3.3
Waste is dealt with in accordance with company documentation and statutory
requirements.
Outcome 4
Select stock for next production process.
Evidence requirements
4.1
Selected stock enables required specifications of finished products to be
achieved.
Range
specifications include but are not limited to – grade, dimension.
4.2
Weight, grade, and timing of selected stock enable the production schedule to
be achieved.
4.3
Stock reconciliations to be carried out in accordance with company
documentation.
