System Architecture. Siemens Building Technologies, Inc. Document No. 127-0527 Page 1 of 2 Notes on System Architecture Benefits The Siemens Building Technologies SED 2 Series Variable Frequency Drives (VFD) are connected to the APOGEE Floor Level Network (FLN) in order to look as if they were standard APOGEE Floor Level devices (for example, Terminal Equipment Controller). Siemens Building Technologies’ FLN protocol is installed on the VFDs allowing direct communication between the MBC and the VFDs. Loading the SED 2 points into APOGEE allows ease of controlling the VFD without the need to hard wire physical I/O points. From the Insight Workstation, an operator can view and change VFD parameters. Because only one front-end workstation is needed, the customer saves in equipment purchases. Additional savings are incurred through reduced maintenance costs and reduced training needs. Increased employee productivity and efficiency is also achieved. Functionality The Siemens Building Technologies VFD transmits informational points, control parameters, PI (Proportional, Integral) parameters, and fault information to APOGEE. It also allows commanding of certain digital and analog parameters. Keys to Success Your local Siemens Building Technologies branch representative should be sure that the Siemens FLN protocol option is ordered and installed in the VFD. In order to minimize troubleshooting, the VFD should be commissioned prior to start up of the communications. Products Supported Siemens Building Technologies Variable Frequency Drive Models supported with the FLN interface include: • SED 2 with FLN Protocol Option If there are any questions regarding the Siemens Building Technologies VFD, contact your local Siemens Building Technologies branch representative.
