A Resolution to add Subsection 5 to Article II Section 1 of the Student Government
Association By-Laws and to include Subsection C: Office Hours to Section II under the
Legislative branch in the Standing Rules.
WHEREAS, “The purpose of the SGA of APSU is to be the voice of all students by
connecting students to other students, faculty, staff, and administration in order to
improve the quality of student life and strengthen the APSU community. As the
voice of the students, we listen to and help articulate the ideas and issues of the students
of APSU.”
WHEREAS, there is a lack of communication between Senators and their constituents.
WHEREAS, there is evidently a misunderstanding between Senators and constituents
regarding the communication process.
WHEREAS, SGA College forums have little to no constituents in attendance.
WHEREAS, Senators are elected representatives of the students and should possess
the desire to communicate with their constituents.
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE 65th GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE
AUSTIN PEAY STATE UNIVERSITY STUDENT GOVERNMENT
ASSOCIATION THAT:
Section 1: Upon passage of this resolution, the SGA By-Law Article II Section 1
Subsection 5 will read, “Shall be required to serve one (1) set office hour per week in
the SGA office of the University Center, which shall begin on the first day of the Fall
semester and end on the day of Spring commencement, excluding full weeks of
University closure.”
Section 2: Upon passage of this resolution, the SGA Standing Rules Section II
Subsection C will read, “All Senators must be present for one (1) set office hour per
week in the SGA office of the University Center, which shall begin on the first day of
the Fall semester and end on the day of Spring commencement, excluding full weeks
of University closure.”
Section 3: The SGA Chief Clerk will be responsible for monitoring the hours kept by
Senators by the use of a notebook in which the Senators will sign in and out of the
office for their office hours. The notebook will be cross-referenced with the Swipe
Card access log.
Section 4: This resolution will be taken into effect beginning Fall Semester 2011.
