Cell Organelle Project!
Instructions:
DUE: ________________
Believe it or not, there are many people who do not know about cell organelles. It is your job to inform the
public about cell organelles, their structure, and how each one helps the cell to function and maintain
homeostasis. Specifically, you will focus on the structure and function of the following cell parts: cell wall, cell
membrane, vacuole, chloroplast, Golgi complex, endoplasmic reticulum, nucleus, mitochondrion, lysosome,
cytoplasm, ribosome, and DNA (not an organelle, but very important!).
Choices!
Create one of the following products to demonstrate and share your knowledge of cells:
-
A 3-dimensional cell model with a poster or booklet for your key and additional information
A booklet
A song and music video
An infomercial
A cell analogy with a poster or booklet for your key and additional information
*Do you have another idea? See your teacher to get your idea approved.
3-Dimensional Cell Model:
NO FOOD ITEMS MAY BE USED FOR THIS ASSIGNMENT!!!
Build a plant or animal cell out of household materials. Do NOT purchase items for your model! Get creative.
After reviewing the project requirements begin looking around for materials that resemble in appearance the
different features of the cell you will build. Remember, the pieces you use for organelles need to reflect the
structure it serves in the actual cell. For example, a cell wall is stiff and supportive, so whatever you use to
represent the cell wall needs to be like that description. You need a key of parts and functions for your model
too.

All words are used, and used correctly
Information
conveyed
Legend or key is present. Information creatively displayed, with appeal
Physical Model
Model is three-dimensional and represents the form and function of the organelle, and
clearly identifies how its structure is related to its function. All structural characteristics
are present.

Booklet: Design a book that is user-friendly, visually appealing, and interesting. You can design yours in the
style of The Magic School Bus Goes into the Cell, a comic book, travel brochure, or even a textbook! This
option needs to have a lot of information and visuals! You should include typical book conventions like a title
page, table of contents, and page numbers. You must write your own booklet … Please no plagiarism!
Song and Music Video: Design a song or music video showing your understanding of the material. Many
songs rhyme in couplets, which means lines rhyme two at a time. Lines one and two rhyme with each other;
but not with the other lines. Lines three and four rhyme with each other, but not with other lines, and so on.
Songs and music videos need to be recorded. You must write your own lyrics! Please, no plagiarism!
Infomercial: Design a video to inform the public about cells. You can be either serious in presenting the facts
or you can have a little fun and sell the idea of cells. In either case, be sure to include all of the important
topics listed above.

Cell Analogy: NO FOOD ITEMS MAY BE USED FOR THIS ASSIGNMENT!!!
Create a 2-dimensional or 3-dimensional cell analogy. For example a cell is like a school. The principal is like a
nucleus because the principal directs the activities of the school just like a nucleus directs the activities of a
cell. Make sure to include all organelles listed above, a key, and a poster (or similar product) to include all the
topics required.
