How to Outline: -Always write the title of the chapter and chapter number. -Write each heading. -Read the paragraph following the heading and sum it up in one or two sentences. The idea is to make the information into a smaller form to study. You need to find a balance between not writing too much so you don’t rewrite the paragraph and not writing too little that when you go back to study from it, you don’t understand what you wrote. (You will get better at this as the year goes on. It is better to write too much at first than too little) -Continue doing this for the entire chapter. -Make sure you write down important explanations of words or topics. -Be prepared to come to class and participate in a Socratic discussion where you are able to use your notes to discuss the chapters.
