 Combination of two or more different kinds
of matter that keep their own physical
properties and can be easily separated.

What is a solution?
 Type of mixture in which particles of two or more substances are mixed
and are not easily separated.

 Solubility is the ability to be dissolved.
 A solute is a substance dissolved in another substance.
 A solvent is a substance that dissolves a solute (these are usually liquids)
 Atoms: The smallest particles of matter that cannot be divided
into smaller parts without changing their properties

 Nucleus: center of an atom- made up of protons and neutrons
 Proton: Subatomic particle with a positive charge
 Neutron: Subatomic particle with no charge
 Electron: Subatomic particle with a negative charge
 Orbits: The path in which electrons move.
 Part of what holds an atom together is the attraction between the positive protons and the
negative electrons
