ADAPTING TO CHANGE! Middleburg Community Charter January 5, 2015 Ms. Browning and Ms. Morgan’s Class Newsletter Language Arts Word Study assessment Friday! Please practice sorting your words into their spelling patterns at home. Social Studies We will be studying the exploration of the Americas by describing the accomplishments of Christopher Columbus, Juan Ponce di Leon, Jacques Cartier and Christopher Newport. Math Science We are investigating and understanding that environments support a diversity of plants and animals that share limited resources with a focus on water-related environments, dry-land environments, population and community. Project-based learning How can humans make choices to improve the quality of life for the animals in their care? We will be focusing on modeling, naming and comparing fractions. Please review the vocabulary, part and whole, at home. We are also learning the mathematical words numerator (part) and denominator (whole). The students will research what animals need and want to survive within their ecosystems. They will compare and contrast their natural environments to the environments created by humans such as zoos, aquariums, safaris and other animal parks. Based on their research, students will identify animals who are at risk based on their needs and wants and develop an improvement plan to help the establishment more effectively mirror the animal’s natural environment.
