Language Arts
Science
No Word Study This Week!!!
We are investigating and understanding
that environments support a diversity of
plants and animals that share limited
resources with a focus on water-related
environments, dry-land environments,
population and community.
Vocabulary: environment,
population, community, habitat,
ecosystem, abiotic, biotic
Social Studies
We will continue the exploration of the
Americas by describing the
accomplishments of Christopher
Columbus, Juan Ponce de Leon, Jacques
Cartier and Christopher Newport and
using our mapping skills to explore our
world. We are excited to explore
Middleburg on our Feb 26th fieldtrip.
Math
We are investigating the ways people
measure. For the next few weeks we will
learn how to measure length, capacity,
weight, and temperature. Some words
to know are: inch, foot, centimeter, cup,
pint, quart, liter, pounds, grams,
kilograms, and thermometer.

Project-based learning
Part 4:
How can humans make choices to improve
the quality of life for the animals in their
care?
Find a solution, or a way, for the human habitat
to improve its habitat.
1. Identify a way to improve the park’s
accommodations so that they better
address the animal’s needs and wants.
2. Is your solution plausible (affordable and
realistic)?
Part 4 will be due on Monday, February
22nd!

The Arts
DANCE:
LEO night is fast approaching…this quarter’s
Leo Night will be Thursday, March
3rd. The students will be performing a song
from Despicable Me. I’m requesting that
students wear a solid yellow shirt, dark blue
jeans, and tennis shoes for their
costumes. If students have a Despicable Me
cap/hat, they can wear that too. Parents,
thank you for your support. I truly
appreciate it!!

The gifted and talented Cogat test for 2nd
graders will be held next week. We are
aiming for Tuesday, Wednesday and
Thursday barring any inclement weather.
