Mrs. Hess’s Third Grade News for October Following is a list of the topics which we will cover in each subject area during the month of October: Reading/Language Arts – application of word analysis skills when reading; decoding multisyllabic words; use of a knowledge of vowel patterns; comprehension of fiction and nonfiction selections; making predictions Word Study – Word lists based on levels of letter pattern understanding will be sent home on Mondays. Assessments will be given on Fridays. Writing – cursive letters; four square writing; journal writing; writer’s workshop (personal narratives) Math – addition and subtraction with regrouping, counting money and making change Science/Social Studies – famous Americans; the water cycle; day and night; seasons; planets and the solar system Special Information October 12 – Columbus Day Holiday October 23 – Halloween Bingo November 2 and 3 – Conference Days (no school for students) – Please make sure you sign up for a conference on Sign-up Genius if you have not already done so. Tip of the Month Please be sure to check your child’s agenda each night to see announcements about homework and upcoming tests. Just a reminder that we have PE on Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays.
