Catalog Description: Design of digital electronic systems using commercially available high‐speed digital devices and circuits Credits: 1.0 Prerequisite Course: CompE 470 Course Description: Design of digital systems using Verilog and VHDL hardware description languages, commercially‐available computer aided design (CAD) tools, and configurable devices Topics Covered (Subject to change) 1. Efficient simulation of digital designs using self‐testing testbenches 2. Timing simulation of digital systems 3. Design, simulation, synthesis, and implementation of digital systems using Xilinx design flow 4. Configuration of FPGAs 5. Programming the FPGA using on‐board SPI FLASH PROM 6. Utilizing primitive IP cores in digital systems 7. Working with iMPACT, Constraints Editor, FPFA Editor, PlanAhead, Timing Analyzer and ChipScope 8. Design and implementation of memory‐based designs, arithmetic logic, and control units 9. Fixed‐point arithmetic design Course Objectives 1. Gain a deeper understanding of the digital design, verification and implementation flow using FPGAs 2. Gain familiarity with various hardware design, verification and synthesis tools 3. Working with an FPGA board to design and implement several digital systems Course Materials Handouts will be posted on BlackBoard (BB). Check BB regularly for updates.
