Third Grade News

February
Following is a list of the topics which we will cover in each subject area during the month of
February:
Reading/Language Arts – application of word analysis skills when reading; decoding
multisyllabic words; using homophones and vowel patterns; application of context clues; and
making connections when reading
Word Study – Word lists based on levels of letter pattern understanding will be sent home on
Mondays. Assessments will be given on Fridays.
Writing – persuasive writing, research based writing, journal writing, and short reports across all
content areas; nonfiction writing
Math – measuring length, telling time, fractions as a part of a whole and as part of a set;
comparing, adding, and subtracting fractions; mixed numbers
Science/Social Studies – animals; economics; explorers
