TODAY’S OBJECTIVES:
Students will examine how the author’s purpose affects
his/her use of language and choice of form.
AGENDA:
1. Compare lyrics from songs from the Vietnam War era to
songs from the Iraqi/Afghanistan war era. Any
similarities/differences? What purpose does music/lyrics
serve in times of war?
2. Watch PBS Documentary Bloods in ‘Nam. What rhetorical
devices (ethos, pathos, logos) does the director use to
make his story compelling?
3. Read first chapter (pg. 269-291) from The Things
They Carried together. Why are the things they
carried so important? Why is there a need for so
many different classifications?
