Job Title (code): IT Manager IV (9815) Purpose Purpose: Persons in the IT Manager IV classification manage other technical staff that perform programming tasks or install, maintain, and trouble-shoot desktop, server, applications, or communications_voice communications equipment and software. They work with a great deal of independence in the performance of their duties, w Essential Functions Function 1: Oversees or conducts major studies regarding system usage, makes recommendations for improvements, and determines network system requirements. 25 % Time Function 2: Evaluate, formulate, and implement approved security recommendations and requirements to allow network traffic to be forward or denied from perimeter, data center, and subnet specific contexts in support of departmental applications. 25 % Time Function 3: Conduct performance evaluations on assigned staff including direct reports and input on managed projects. 25 % Time Function 4: Reviews network system plans for completeness and accuracy, and plans and schedules network studies and system implementations. 25 % Time Function 5: % Time Function 6: % Time Function 7: % Time Function 8: % Time Marginal/Incidental Functions Marginal/Incidental Functions: Other related functions as assigned. Qualifications Required Qualifications: Bachelor?s Degree in related field and ten years of related computing work experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Six years of supervisory experience. The following knowledge, skills, and abilities are required: Prior experience with specific systems, equipment and software may be specified as needed by department. Considerable knowledge of principles of computing and/or communications networks, and characteristics of computing hardware and software used in distributed environments. Ability to supervise and train subordinates. Strong understanding of project management disciplines. Ability to provide scope and prioritization on work assignments, paying strong attention to detail and deadlines. Ability to assimilate, retain, and utilize technical and applications-oriented information. Preferred Qualifications: Must be experienced in local and wide area network work. Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in computer science, management information systems, or a related field is generally preferred, and ten or more years of applicable experience. Education and experience may be substituted for one another.
