Job Title (code): IT Manager I (9812) Purpose Purpose: Persons in the IT Manager I classification manage other technical staff who perform programming tasks or install, maintain, and trouble-shoot desktop, server, applications, or communications/voice communications equipment and software. They work under the close supervision of a manager in the performance of their dutie Essential Functions Function 1: Establish budgetary estimates for communications technology in new construction design documents. 25 % Time Function 2: Maintain the network's physical and logical structures, including network connections. 25 % Time Function 3: Develop project scope and purchasing documents for network expansion projects managed under job contracts. Qualifications Required Qualifications: Bachelor?s Degree in related field and three years of related computing work experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience. The following knowledge, skills, and abilities are required: Prior experience with specific systems, equipment and software may be specified as needed by department. Considerable knowledge of principles of computing and/or communications networks, and characteristics of computing hardware and software used in distributed environments. Ability to supervise and train subordinates. Ability to provide scope and prioritization on work assignments, paying strong attention to detail and deadlines. Ability to assimilate, retain, and utilize technical and applications-oriented information. Preferred Qualifications: Must be experienced in local or wide area network work. Documented formal education is desired with a minimum of 60 credit hours with major course work in computer science, management information systems, or a related field of study, and seven or more years of applicable experience. Education and experience may be substituted for one another.
