FUNCTION: To direct activities of the college related to science education and
outreach.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Oversee the MAIS program and undergraduate
science education program. Co-teach SCIE courses. Direct initiatives to enhance
effectiveness of science instruction in the COS. Direct administrative oversight of the
Science Education and Career. Supervision of employees. Conduct outreach to K-12 to
make them aware of science and science careers. Develop a program to provide students
visiting the planetarium with additional science information/experience. Work actively in
support of the activities related to state supported line items for the Science Education
Center. Represent the Dean as needed on committees and at meetings. Serve as advisor to
the Science Constituency Council.

INTERNAL CONTROL: Responsible for the design, execution and effectiveness of a
system of internal controls which provides reasonable assurance that department
operations are effective and efficient, department assets are safeguarded, department
financial information is reliable, and the department complies applicable laws,
regulations, policies and procedures.

Physical tasks:
Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation, use of manual dexterity, climbing of stairs,
lifting and moving.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Ph.D. in Science or related field. 4 years experience in teaching, outreach, program
development, project administration, or program management, including experience in
grant writing. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be
substituted as appropriate.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Government or University experience. Self
motivated, organized, able to communicate effectively in writing and verbally, able to
work effectively with a team and independently.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Specific job requirements or physical location of some
positions allocated to this classification, may render the position security sensitive, and
thereby subject to the provisions of Section §51.215 Texas Education Code.
