FUNCTION: Provides journalistic skill in the planning, executing and composition of
publications, presentations, programs, news releases and various publicity documents to
an external audience.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsible for executing the public relations
and communications programs. Develops, writes, and edits documents, websites, flyers,
posters, and information booklets. Participate in developing communication strategies,
programs and assists with long-range planning and goal setting. Checks all material for
accuracy and appropriateness of presentation. Develops and coordinates special
informational projects and events that enhance the campus community's awareness of
department activities, news and events. Interacts with on and off campus media in a
professional manner. Other duties as assigned by the Dean and Associate Dean.

REPORTS TO: Dean, Architecture
SUPERVISES: none
INTERNAL CONTROL: Responsible for the design, execution, and effectiveness of a
system of internal controls which provides reasonable assurance that department
operations are effective and efficient, department assets are safeguarded, department
financial information is reliable, and the department complies with applicable laws,
regulations, policies, and procedures.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Exposure to standard office conditions; repetitive use of a
keyboard at a workstation; use of manual dexterity; climbing of stairs
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree in a related field. 2 years of
experience in the writing, editing, and preparation of a variety of informational materials,
newsletters, and publications, both for print and electronic distribution. Excellent verbal
and written communication skills and effective interpersonal skills. Independent decision
making and problem solving ability will be expected in areas such as editing, arranging,
format, content, and writing. Equivalent combination of relevant education and
experience may be substituted as appropriate.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Diplomacy, discretion, and tact are required in all
matters. Knowledge of website maintenance, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Internet, and
standard office equipment.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Specific job requirements or physical location of some
positions allocated to this classification, may render the position security sensitive, and
thereby subject to the provisions of Section §51.215 Texas Education Code.
