TC hoopsters get scholarships
The Temple Daily Telegram reported that Damon Bailey and Brandon Washington finally can update their
respective answering machines with the following message: Quit calling me.After being bombarded with
recruiters' calls for several months, the pair of Temple College men's basketball players made a decision
that should put an end to most of the ringing.Juniors-to-be Bailey and Washington on Tuesday signed
national letters of intent to attend and play for Missouri Western State College beginning this fall. They will
receive three-year full scholarships at the NCAA Division II school in St. Joseph, Mo., located about 55
miles north of Kansas City."A lot of people were trying to get us in for a visit, but we were getting sick and
tired of it," Bailey said. "There were always 12 or 13 messages from coaches wanting to talk to us."Bailey,
the 2000-01 Northern Texas Junior College Athletic Conference Player of the Year, was recruited by the
country's leading D-II powers, but he opted to pick the best situation for him and Washington — the old
packaged deal.
