The Temple College Orchestra has been under the direction of Mary Fairlie since 2001. This 64-member ensemble is dedicated to musical excellence while promoting the enjoyment of music. Members of the orchestra live in Temple, Belton, Harker Heights, Killeen, Copperas Cove, Hewitt, Waco, Rockdale, Salado and Round Rock. They are students, amateur musicians from all walks of life, music teachers and professionals who come together once a week to make music together. The orchestra performs standard repertoire from a range of musical styles. The ensemble performs one concert each semester in the auditorium of the Mary Alice Marshall Performing Arts Center. In addition, they provide the music for commencement every other year. Participation is open to any interested musician who has former orchestral or band experience, or to any student who has studied his or her instrument for five years. Mrs. Fairlie has played the violin since age 9. She currently plays first violin in the Temple College Orchestra. She maintains an active studio, teaching violin and viola. She also teaches American Music (MUSI 1310) every semester.
