Kindergarten
 Lessons twice per week – parent attends lessons
 Time: Between AM and PM sessions
 *Days vary by instructor
 1st grade
 Lessons twice per week – parent attends lessons
 Time/days vary by instructor, usually before or
after school

2nd grade
 Student receives one Suzuki lesson with a parent
and one reading lesson during the school day.
 Student may be invited to play in orchestra

3rd-6th grade
 Student takes lessons during the school day
 Student may be invited to play in orchestra or
chamber orchestra

Violin playing practice:
 5-7 days a week
 10-15 minutes

Listening practice: every day, at every opportunity
 In the car, at meals, at bedtime, during homework, etc.
 Absolutely necessary to be successful in the Suzuki
program.
*Practice expectations increase as your child becomes a
more advanced player.

Your child will play in a concert after just 6
months of instruction!

Held one evening in May or June
 Several afterschool rehearsals held in the weeks
before

Arriving to lessons on time with instrument
 Lessons are twice a week

Learning the first few songs on the violin so
that you can best help your child learn

Book and CD: $20
Cost of instrument rental:
 approx. $90 for the first 6 months
 $15 a month thereafter







Maintenance and repairs are included
Size upgrades are free
Both vendors service the schools once a week
Your rental will include an adult-sized violin
first – students work with a “box violin” while
adults play the large violin.
