CLASS TITLE:
CASHIER I
BASIC FUNCTION:
Under the direction of the Coordinator, Student Accounts, perform responsible cashiering duties;
receive payments, reconcile funds and post to student accounts; balance cash drawer at closing;
provide information regarding District procedures to students, staff and faculty.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:
Cashier I incumbents perform responsible cashiering duties relating to receiving, disbursing and
controlling cash, reconciling funds, posting to accounts and providing information and assistance
relating to student activities and other district functional areas; coordinate bus pass purchases;
and process transcript requests.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
1. Collect monies for student accounts; count and control monies collected through daily
totals from computerized fee collection system.
2. Provide information and assistance related to a wide variety of student activities and
District functional areas; provide information and assistance in person and on the phone
while staffing the Student Accounts office window.
3. Sort, file and distribute student checks; secure checks as necessary.
4. Verify and issue guest and student one-day parking passes; collect money for student
parking permits and parking citations.
5. Access student records using a computer terminal and clear holds on student accounts;
receive monies and enter appropriate data.
6. Sell bus passes.
7. Issue cash boxes for events on campus and track the receipt of returned cash boxes from
staff/faculty club advisors.
8. Process transcript requests by posting transcript charges and the respective payments to
student accounts.
9. Perform related duties as assigned.

District and student activities.

Correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation and vocabulary.
ABILITY TO:
Operate a computer terminal with computerized fee collection system.
Receive and control cash used in Oceanside campus cashiering.
Plan, organize and prioritize work.
Learn District organization, operations, policies and objectives.
Add, subtract, multiply and divide quickly and accurately.
Understand and follow oral and written directions.
Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
Work independently with little direction.

Train and provide work direction to others.
Maintain records.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Equivalent to graduation from high school and one year general work experience.

PHYSICAL EFFORT:
Primarily sedentary with intermittent standing, walking, bending and stooping; occasional light
lifting and carrying of objects weighing 25 pounds or less; ability to work at computer station for
extended periods of time, involving light to moderate repetitive use of hands, wrists, shoulders
and forearms; ability to travel to a variety of locations on and off campus as needed to conduct
district business.
EMOTIONAL EFFORT:
Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships involving interactions and
communications personally, by phone and in writing with a variety of individuals and/or groups
of individuals from diverse backgrounds on a regular, on-going basis; ability to focus while
working under pressure on multiple tasks concurrently while meeting established deadlines and
changing priorities.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Primarily busy, indoor office environment; subject to frequent contacts and interruptions by
individuals in person or by phone; intermittent exposure to angry and/or verbally aggressive
individuals; may be required to work during day and/or evening hours including occasional
weekends on an as-needed basis.
