"This Land is Your Land, This Land is My Land": Native American Land Claims and
Conflicts over Space.
Land claims and the demand for control over territory and resources are inherent aspects
of Native American sovereignty. Land and space are fundamentally important to tribal
identity and culture. Land claims are also extremely controversial and contentious. This
presentation explains the political, historical, social and legal dimensions of Native
American tribal land claims. The presentation discusses the ways that the United States
government has tried to resolve land claims in the past as well as the current legal and
political situation of tribal land claims.
