WISCONSIN PUBLIC TV SUMMER 2014 PAID INTERN POSITION DESCRIPTION – TRIBAL HISTORIES PROJECT Wisconsin Public Television seeks an intern for our Tribal Histories Project. The twelve half-hour Wisconsin Tribal Histories will tell the stories of all eleven Wisconsin sovereign nations plus the federally unrecognized Brothertown tribe, uniquely and powerfully bringing them to life through first-person narrative. These broadcast productions will begin airing in 2014 and continue into 2016. The ideal candidate has a deep knowledge and understanding of tribal cultures and familiarity with archival history research. Eligibility: To be eligible for the Summer Affirmative Action Internship Program (SAAIP), you must be: A full-time Wisconsin student or out of state student enrolled in a college/university, or vocational technical program in the state of Wisconsin, AND A current student who will be a junior in the fall following the internship, or has completed at least one year of a 2 year technical college program. SPECIFIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Schedule, transcribe and assist with shoots and logistics 2. Serve as tribal liaison by keep the Nations and interviewees informed of project activities and progress on individual programs 3. Other duties as assigned REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS 1. In-depth knowledge and understanding of in tribal cultures 2. Basic computer and online skills 3. Strong written and oral communication skills 4. Strong interpersonal skills PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS 1. Familiarity with archival research methods 2. Previous research experience 3. Knowledge of WI tribal history 4. Strong interpersonal skills 5. Ability to work independently Work will generally be performed M-F, 20 hours per week for 12 weeks, in Vilas Hall, 821 University Avenue (on Madison Metro bus lines). Must be available to work some nights and weekends as needed. Pay is $10 per hour.
