Course Description: A continuation of ESOL 0342, this course develops reading skills
and comprehension of more difficult reading selections.
Course Objectives: Students will be able to summarize and recognize the main idea
of a passage as well as locate specific facts. They will be able to infer the meaning of
new vocabulary and implied information. They will also develop their vocabulary and
word study skills.
Absence and Tardy Policies: According to HCCS policy, the teacher may drop any
student who has missed 12.5% (four days) of class. If you arrive more than five
minutes late, you will be counted tardy. (3 tardies=1 absence) If you are more than
fifteen minutes late, you will be counted absent.
Make-up Policy: There will be no make-up tests except in extreme emergencies. You
must call the officer or email me if you have an emergency.
Scholastic Honesty: Do not copy the work of other students. If you need help with an
assignment, ask me for assistance.
Disability Support: Any student with a documented disability (e.g. physical, learning,
psychiatric, developmental, vision, hearing, etc.) who needs to arrange reasonable
accommodations must contact the Disability Support Services (DSS) Counselor at the
beginning of each semester. Faculty members are authorized to provide only the
accommodation requested by the DSS Office. Ms. Kim Ingram is the Northeast
College’s DSS counselor. Her telephone number is 713-718-8420.
Course Repeaters: Students who repeat a course three or more times must pay
higher tuition at HCC and other Texas public colleges and universities. If you are
considering course withdrawal because you are not earning passing grades, talk with
your instructor/counselor as early as possible about your study habits, reading and
writing homework, test-taking skills, attendance, course participation, and opportunities
for tutoring or other assistance that might be available.
